Could someone what the changes in the Nocona core? Are 64 bit extensions included? From what little I gathered so far, the Nocona will use the same socket, which is good for people with Xeons mobos already...

It uses the same socket, yes, but as it is derived from the Prescott core it has much higher power requirements which mean they won't work well on the majority of older Xeon mobos. Plus they run 200fsb which often isn't supported either.

They are 64bit enabled though if you need that.

It's 200MHz FSB, 90nm, alot hotter, has EMT64, and I think it needs a E752*-chipset (E7520/E7525) or better to run.

It also runs very hot.

The Prestona was based on the Northwood core and had a 20 stage pipeline, a 533 MHz FSB, SSE2, and a 512 KB L2 cache. The Nocona is prescott based and has all the tweaks of prescott, a 1 MB L2 cache, SSE3, supposidly better, terrible 64 bit extensions and a 31 stage pipeline. the FSB is 800 MHz, but unforuntately, its a shared bus so there is still an internal bottleneck

Ahh much thanks.. I was wondering about future upgrade to nocona core.. I guess I wont bother and skip a core.
