well thats exactly what i was gonna post, its that exact same chip only the writeing has worn off

also, this is what amd did, they where a chip maker they would make chips for just about any one but had no desgines of there own, where as intel, had desgines but no fabs of there own (if they did they couldnt handle this sort of process ect. ) this is a rare chip indeed becuase i beleave its one of few made for intell by amd befor intell got there own fabs

I'm feeling nostalgic over these chips, and I wasn't even born when they were made!

Who wants to see my Cyrix? It was made in some place called Canada...wherever that is... :confused:

That's their AMD 5x86 overdrive processor sold by Evergreen Technologies. AMD started way back in the day. It wasn't however until the Athlon launched that AMD was truely competetive on any real level.
 
Those weren't made in 1978, that's the date of the intel copyright. The 80186's weren't even pc cpu's, they were embedded processors introduced in 1982. That 10mhz one was probably made sometime in the late '80's, still a pretty neat find.

I had some strange pc stuff as well, anybody remember those stupid microchannel ibm's? Good luck finding a sound card or anything of the like for it. How about the old 8088 ps2 all in ones with mfm hard drives (model 25 I think)? The ibm version of the mac. I sometimes wish I'd kept some of those POS's.

Anybody have a pic of one of those ibm 486 dx4 120mhz jobs? I think they called them blue thunder or something, I remember looking through the J&R catalog and thinking 'someday...'

ok.. this one i never under stood but maybe someone has an answer for me, my friends had a 486dx 33 exactly like this, and the socket also had the extra ring of pins around the edge the same as this photo, was this an upgrade path the was never used??? get you up to pentium speeds without haveing to buy a new board, or was there like a server class processor that needed the extra pins??? i never saw them used but always wondered

Yeah I had 2 of these. They came out of some old Wang file servers I ripped apart years ago.

mine is acctually a 80286 10 and was pulled by myself out of a pc, i wish the writeing was still on it so i could prove it , but it bounced around the bottom of a tool box for about 10 years befor i relised what i had and yanked it

i think thats exactly what they are used for. i think intel was gonna go further with that socket, but just dropped it. it mighta been for a pentium pro or something. not sure.

Any of you guys remembering IT'S ST? The 486 chips wanted 5v! :D

I have one at home, I can take pics of it later if you want...

My very own first computer was an amiga 500 and I a few years later used 486 DX-cpus with turbo-buttons. Man, that where the days, real time OC buy the touch of a button.

it was a microbee series 3 I think (I was 8). I remember getting my dad to buy me computer magazines so I could type in the code for various BASIC based games.

Went from that to a Amstrad 8086 box. Had a EGA card and TWO 5 1/4inch drives. Had lots of fun with that, I remember Monkey Island having 8 5 1/4 inch disks and begging my parents for an ORIGINAL ISA Soundblaster (I remember playing around with my mates with the voice recording, we where amazed.....then came the whole .mod scene) so that I could hear the great music. Lots of adventure games those days.

Then the next one was a 486DX50 (not DX2) with a TsengLabs ET4000. My mate had a DX2-66. Thing was, with a 50mhz VLB, my pc smoked his in Doom. Plus I remember dragging my pc to my mates place, serial connection to his then using Kali to dial into our other mate for 3 player deathmatches.

Then at uni, got the p90 and so on.....[-]ard for life...

they beauty of EISA.. all the trouble of regular ISA with hard to find and use config utilities also

Yep.
At a time when computers were prohibitively expensive the came out with a format that nearly doubled the price.

Damn I was trying to find my VESA card... I can't find it... I found my old Voodoo 2 in the process though..
 
I saw the post about a Tandy... that was my first computer :D. I had a Tandy 1000.
