If I understand this correctly, and correct me if i'm wrong the current prescotts have lower bus speeds and no hyperthreading compared to the P4 c-core's. Isn't that kind of a rip? I'm mean it comes with a better HSF and twice the cache, and like 10 bucks cheaper in the 2.4 variety. But still, I don't know it might be worth it, lower bus speed lowers memory bandwidth too though. Thoughts? I'm sure it will be a lot more exciting when it comes out with a new socket and higher bus speed with HT, and they get any bugs(heat maybe) worked out. I doubt this will take them too long to do. Those will kick ass, but for now i'm thinking c ores are better.

No, only the Shitty Prescott (A) does.

The normal Prescotts (E) run on the 800 MHz FSB and have HT just like Northy Cs.

Prescott Es and Northy Cs perform reasonably similarly at identical frequencies (despite all the bullshit people are emitting), so get whichever floats your boat.

Yes the prescott 2.4A 533 bus has no hyperthreading but it is far from a shitty chip when overclocked.

Check out the review on the front page of the [H]

Its the only prescott that shines right now.

I've heard that in the long run the prescot is gonna dominate. Intel added a new instruction set to the prescot. The thing is that at the moment no software developers are taking advantage of these new instructions.

One of the engineers that worked on the prescot jsut became an associate professor at my school... i think..

If you read the articles the Prescott is close enough for most applications and even outdoes the previous generation Northies on some tests.

Is the Northwood faster? Most of the time yes. Will the Prescott shine when the software begins to take advantage of its added instructions? Only time will tell but more than likely YES.

Which is better right now? Northwood. Why? Because it's not a damned furnace and on today's applications you see no bennifit to Prescotts core changes.

However if Prescott were cheaper than Northwood to purchase right now I would probably get a Prescott without hesitation. Just don't get the A unless your going to overclock.

From what i see on newegg the prescott E has 1 meg L2 cache, which should have a dramatic impact on certain types of software.

Intel Pentium 4/ 3.0E GHz 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading Technology Core: Prescott $255.00

Intel Pentium 4/ 3.0C GHz 800MHz FSB, 512KB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading Technology Core: Northwood $228.00

My question is do the 3.0E's overclock as well as the 3.0C's ? ^^

Probably, if you can find a way to cool it off.

did you read the fourm on hardocp baout overclocking the presscott? dude it melted the motherboard

Prescotts overclock just fine. The secret is keeping them cold enough to be safe and stable.
