just after some heat info

my prescott 3.4ghz runs at like 50-62c at max load stock lga775 cooling

clocked at just under 3.8 seems to max out at 67c under load but i didnt test it very intensively as i was worried with the temp that high

is this to hot for a prescott? how high can they go without damage?

note: room temp is usually about 25c

a friend told me that you can get a bracket to stick a zalman7000 on the lga775 chipset anyone know if these work well? (the bracket that is)

thanks in advance

Intel says its processors can go up to 85 degrees without damage... the problem consists in their overheat protection, which makes progressive underclock from 65 degrees on. As temperature raises, clock unraise.

Prescotts (specially those overclocked) need watercooler or an expensive and powerfull air cooling solution.

should i be able to see the cpu throttle speed drop...

cause when i had it clocked at just under 3.8 it was running 66-67c and speed was the same as at 65?

You will see the drop in benchmarks when it starts underclocking. I think the actual temp the chip is rated at is 69c. If you really want to OC with a Prescott chip then you should probably consider water cooling. I have a Koolance Exos that works pretty good. Keeps me at 46c/55c with my current OC. (check my sig)

While not exactly a P4 prescott my celeronD 2.4ghz runs warm too: 36C idle 55C load on a 600mhz oc with the stock cooling.

Got my presscott 2.8e @ 3.4ghz down to 36c idle and 48c load on air

and this is the hotter 478pin variety.

shows what good cooling and proper airflow can do
