I just hooked up a computer, tested it out, not totally done yet, the case was giving me trouble. But with only CDrom and floppy left to put in, i decided to make sure everything else worked. System booted, I went into BIOS, first thing I went to was the temps since it was a prescott I had to check them out. It started off at 52C then RAPIDLY increased up to 70C then stoped for alittle and when it hit 71.5C I decided that was to hot, and turn it off. That temperature would FRY most P4s, but is this a normal temp for stock heatsink? I know they run hot, but making sure this isnt to hot. Im going to make sure the heatsink is positioned right tommorrow when I get home, and finish the work.

Update the BIOS on your motherboard while you're at it. Nonetheless, my suspicions lie with heatsink mounting. Prescotts run hot, but not that hot.

That goes seen alittle bit hot. My 2.8e runs around 42c on idle and only gets to about 47-50c on load. I would definately update your bios and see what the bios temp says. But from what I have read, the bios temp display is a little bit unreliable.
