Are the Prescott's the way to go? I have an Albatron 865PE Pro II. I am debating between a 3.0 regular Northwood or going with a 2.8E for a bit less and clocking it up or a 3.0 E. What do you guy's think? Also, will I need to flash the bios in order to use the Prescott chip if I go that route?

Easy.... Northy 3.0....
Unless you'd like to make a furnace out of your PC...

But on a serious note, I'm yet to see any hardware site being enthusiastic about current Prescotts...

If the Alby will support Prescott @ all, you *will* need a new BIOS. The big concern is *heat and power* issues. (The Prescott runs rather hot and severely taxes the +12V line of your PSU.)

Also, at 3.0 GHz, the E still commands a price premium over the C (and benchies have not proven out *any* advantage the E has under light to medium loading).

Unless you heavily load the CPU (overclocking *and* running multiple applications at once) and have a heavy-duty cooling system (liquid cooling, VapoChill or an advanced Peltier system), I would say stick with the C for now.

yeah my dad recently got me a new pc... its got a 3.0E ghz and cooling is definately an issue... i dont wanna change anything since its an HP and dont wanna void warranty etc.. but the overheating pisses me off, sometimes ill play cs and then the fan will just go high to cool and after that the sound gets all wierd, i hear these wierd things like screetches and then i have to reset/log off log on

probably northwood

Get the 3.0C or wait for a socket 775 one.
Stay away from the Prescott for now as stated and get a Northwood.
