Hey guys, I have a Abit IC7-MAX3 board currently running with a Pentium 4 at 3GHz. I just saw that supposedly Intel will be releasing their Prescott processors on February 2nd. I know there are certain specifications in regards to power that the Prescott processors based on the 478 pin package need, and I was just wondering if my board would handle them, or if there is a place I could find out. I'm particularly interested in the 3.4GHz model.

Wait until then and you will know which boards support which processors.

We all have been waiting on word about prescott so... Feburary 1st is the date... its only a few days away

2 weeks doesn't seem to be a few days away:D

I want to know myself. I am building a new system and I don't know whether to go with a P4 3.2, an A64 3400+ or wait until the new stuff is out....

Damnit I hate waiting on this. I have the money now and it's burning a hole in my pocket.

Been seeing a lot of a64's dying lately, OC'd. I've sold my 3.2 and i have a 3.0 egaying now. Waiting on prescott.

Using a 2.8 celeron @ 3.7ghz to hold me over!! I sold just about all my P4 chips cept for a 1.6a.

I'll be up at 12:01 am.

If it doesnt work , just buy a new board. And thank intel.

I'll be sure to do that in the best way I can think of, going right out and buying an A64 setup :)

Going from a p4 @3500, your gonna really see a huge performance boost:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

well, if his A64 overclocks as well as his P4 did, then he definitely will.

hell, even if his A64 overclocks half as well as his P4 he will.
At least in games

and super pi

I like those A64's
although their chipsets and mem bandwicth aren't as refined as intel's, the A64 is sure an impressive cpu, much more impressive than the northwood, which I am frankly getting a little tired of. And I don't think that prescott is gonna be all that much better. All it has going for it is higher clock speeds.

Well from what I have seen the A64 is no great OC'er unless you have phase change or some other extreme cooling setup. But this is a new CPU and process for AMD and yields should improve pretty soon. Most of the reviews I have read put the A64 3400 ahead of the P4 3.2EE at stock speeds in almost all gaming benchmarks. I discount most of the synthetic benchmarks like SANDRA nowadays as they seem to have lost touch with real world performance. While true I am currently running at 3.5, I have to use a ton of Vcore and good water cooling to do it. If I can get better performance out of a processor running at stock speed and V's, my opinion is that is a better place to start OC'ing. I will wait till Prescott releases before I buy. But I like a lot of others have no idea wether or not Intel's new chip will even run on my MOBO. Rumors claim a 5~15% performance increase for Prescott in SOME applications. SSE3 is a non issue at this point as no one has it written into their software yet. We'll all wait and see...
