Well I've got two processors. A Pentiun 4 3.0E and a Pentium 4 3.0C both are socket 478.

My 3.0C tops out at 3.45GHz. I can't get it to go any faster. Reguardless of the memory I use or the voltages I set the chip for. a 400+MHz overclock isn't that bad really. It's always been stable and the temps are decent.

I had to build another computer and all that I could get my hands on was this 3.0E. Well I decided to install the chip and see what it could do. So far I've got it set at 3.42GHz (What my Northwood was set to) and I ran benches. So far it seems that the 3.0E and 3.0C are the exact same speed in my setup (see sig) at this clock speed. I'm hoping that I can get this Prescott chip to clock higher than my Northwood. Since I'm only using air cooling I'm hoping for 3.6GHz or 3.7GHz. My temps are about 10C higher on my Prescott than my Northwood. So we'll see how it goes.

Anybody want to share their Prescott 3.0E experiences? I'm curious about voltages, the ram timings and temps you guys are getting out of these chips.

I just got a 2.8e and still haven't gotten to run right yet. OOOOOH BOOOOOYEEEE, I just can't wait to OC this mother.

Up at work I have a test processor 3.0E and a MSI 865PE Neo2 or whatever it's called. I have issues running that Prescott on it too.

I'd like to point out that MSI's also have issues with thier caps blowing whenever you do serious overclocking. I would be carefull with that.

BTW what do you mean when you say that yours doesn't run right?

I to have both a 3.0C and 3.0E. My 3.0C would do 240fsb max, no matter the vcore, that was the cpu's limit. My new 3.0E which is a D0 stepping does 245fsb @ 1.485 (abit ic7-max 3). I am nervous to push the vcore anymore and see what it can do on air. My teamps are insane, cooled with an sp94 my idle is around 47-50C and load at around 60-65C. I have to take my side panel off when i game cause the things gets so hot. Performance is slightly better on my 3.0E, not enough to really matter imho. I like having both chips, so no regrets. I wouldn't push more than 1.5v thorugh that prescott though, thing is already power hungry.

My pressy 2.8e does 3.4 on good air cooling (3.3 on stock)

244mhz FSB but i beleive its my mobo holding me back right now (it has known problems with higher FSB)

Well my ram will hold me back on going any further with a 1:1 ratio. 227FSB is all I can get. Even after adjusting the voltage on it.

I may go to a 5:4 ratio just to get my CPU speed up. Right now I'm just kinda breaking it in. I had it running in my other PC but it didn't get really abused. Plus it was running at stock speeds. I'll see what I can get out of it over the next couple days.

Prescott's are slower than Northwoods up to 3.4GHz..so..that's nothing new really.

Also Prescotts had their pipelines extended so they can be clocked very high so you can probably squeeze some more out it...but they do run really hot.

I think the Prescotts are slower at even faster speeds. My 2.4 @ 3.6 ghz on a 5:4 actually beat out a 4 gig Prescott in Sandra's multimedia bench

I installed the procesor and nothing happens, so I put my 2.4b back in and flashed the board. Then all hell broke loose, COmputer would see the processor as a 2.8 but no HT and computer won't go past post. I put my 2.4b back in and then nothing, won't even post. I managed to clear the cmos and get it to boot in safe mode with 2.4 and then reflashed back to the 2.1's on MSI website.

Needless to say I have given up and looking to replace mobo. I am very strapped for cash due to daughters cheerleading and all the hurricanes that have hit us. I only have about 70-80 bucks to spend.

Heh. You sure about that? At 4 gigs, Prescotts start to perform better clock for clock then northwoods.

Actually, a lot more people are known to hit 4 gigs using E then C's. They jsut run a tad bit hotter :)
