Prescott D0 vs. E0, HUGE OCING DIFFERENCE

I thought would be an important topic to talk about. After reading a view articles and doing a few testing myself I have found that the Prescott E0 is dramatically superior when it comes to Overclocking over the previous Prescott version, the D0.

I recently bought a 3.0E E0, without knowing it was an E0. I decided to test it’s OCing abilities by starting the FSB at 200 and increment it by 1 each time and run prime95 for 30mins to see if there are any errors. SO FAR… I am at 238 FSB (3.57GHZ) and haven’t had any errors to speak of nor did I have to raise the vcore a single notch. Pretty cool!!!

At default voltage the chip is running 54c on full load and that is without compensating for ABITS over temperature readings.

Have you tested 64-bit code at this speed to make sure it's stable?

Ya one other thing I should point out, I heard the E0 throttles down differently. They said somewhere that it thottles down more aggressively under full load, but I think this only happen's if the chip goes over about 60c. I'm running bench marks after doing 30mins of prime95 to make sure its not throttling down.
 
Is anyone elses memory X10 cooler with the E0? When I had my 2.8c my memory would nearly burn my fingure if I touched the sticks. The 3.0e E0 actually made my memory sticks cool to the touch. intresting....

Most of us here have cooling systems that keep our CPU's, even our prescotts below 74c at load.

Who knows what really happens though.

I have a 3.2E at 4400mhz , i dont think you will get any higher than that.
The EO might be better for air cooling. I would rather take the SL5E7 84 watt then a EO

I'm not too sure what this was in reponse to, anyhow, what I've heard says the E0's overclock better on air cooling then the D0's do. Currently, 3.2 D0's seem to get most users to 3.8 or 3.9 pretty easy, but 4ghz is hit or miss. Where as the E0's seem to be a better shot at 4ghz or more.

Now then, if you have good watercooling or better it appears D0's have little trouble getting to 4.2 or more. Time will tell if the E0's do better then that. FUGGER has already got his E0 up to 6.3ghz using some very elaborate cooling. There seems to be no doubt the E0's overclock better, but really... not by enough to make it worth hunting one down... not if you're over 4ghz that is.

Fugger does not make up overclocks. He is well known for setting many records.

Regardless to that though, it appears now the E0's overclock easier then D0's.

Notice what I wrote, easier. Meaning, right now for most who watercool or better both the D0's and E0's seem to top out around 4.4 to 4.6ghz. However, for those who dont, it looks so far the E0's take it to 4ghz plus easier then the D0's.

I mean, look at your overclock, you're getting 4.5ghz out of your D0. You could try a dozen E0's and maybe not get any higher then 4.6ghz out of them. Perhaps not even that much difference. Frankly the E0 right now only appears to be a good thing for those without high quality cooling systems.

Had to kick the vcore up to 1.4375 volts.

How high do you guys think the vcore can go on this thing before I start risk damaging this thing? I figure anything above 1.5volts.
 
I hit 3.5ghz with no voltage change on a D0 3.0E prescott. And my temps were in the high 30c's with stock cooling.

Dood, you have water and an E0, run 1.6v through it! I ran 1.6v through my D0 on water with no problems, and continue to do so on my Vapo.

You are far more likely to fry your mobo before you toast the Pressy from overvolt. Can anyone find a single instance of a Prescott failure due to overvolting?

I didn't think so.

Pressy's love volts, assuming you have the cooling to compensate, and you do. ;)

In the BIOS, I set it to 1.375v. Keep in mind that this is a 3.4E D0 stepping. My idle temp is usually around 44C and 53-57C load, depending on what I'm doing.

C0's were, they came out at launch in Feb. They were then followed by D0's in June/July.
 
I've had a prescott go bad on watercooling. I had it at 1.55V (1.5V Bios setting) with droop to 1.45Vunder stress for a benchmark run that crashed. After clocking it back down some, memtest would reboot immediately, and prime95 would crash around 9 to 12 hours. That was a c0 stepping. This d0 stepping I replaced does 4ghz at 1.43V (1.375 Bios setting and 1.4V under load because I did the droop mod for my motherboard).

I suppose I dont even need to bother with this.......but if you're actually implying that you're "calling" Fugger on his overclock then you better think twice.....it HAS been done, and he's not the only one to break the 6 marker....some japs have done it too. Fugger is actually running at something like -120C or so with what I believe is a triple cascade, or a double for sure on his CPU.

You have to realise that when you start taking overclocking beyond any of OUR levels and accending to THOSE levels.......you cannot follow and go by the same "rules" and whatnot. There are plenty of ppl at XS who have broken 5GHz with less then a 3.8E......and I'm pretty sure its pc ice that's already taken an FX-55 to 3.76GHz at -13xC.

I know that this seems out of place.....but I just wanted to make sure that there weren't any misconceptions lurking around here about what those crazies at XS are capable of.....because sad as I am to say it, they're in a completely different playing field then about 99.9% of the ppl around here. Not to talk down [H].....but it's a completely different community.....with different standards and levels of knowhow.

Anywho......I'm still waiting to see if I'm gonna be able to get my hands on a Vapo LS to see where I can take this 3.4E SL7E6 to.
 
And I don't think it is possible to photoshop CPU-Z stats, since some people seem to have some sort of tool to verify if it is real or not.

this is what I'm up to so far, %100 stable, I ran prime95 for about 5 hours and looped 3dmark03 for 5 also; no error so speak of. Should I go higher, if so how far do you think I can push the vcore? If I cut the vcore down one notch I do get errors at 250FSB.

Actually, people like Fugger, pc ice, opp, and tom holck are on a completely different playing field than 99.9% of people on XS. :D

BTW, I read that entire sticky thread about fugger's 6 GHz prescott. I never did see a superpi run.
 
Just to chime in on the Celeron D LGA775 330J 2.66 E0 front, I'm having a hard time OC'ing this thing so far on a Chaintech V915P mobo. Right now, it's on stock HSF w/ AS5 and the temps are pretty decent (39°C Idle / ~49°C load). Yeah, I know "Celeron" - it's a makeshift budget PCI-E experiment until NF4/PCI-E proves itself... BTW - this is my first Intel build since P3 800EB, so I'm re-learning...

Default voltage is like 1.28 and even if I take it up to 1.35, I can only OC the FSB to 140. Then, it just resets the BIOS back to 133 FSB after it boots as I'm sure a failsafe feature. The temps stay decent even after the volt changes, so I doubt it's a heat issue. Besides, I don't have a therm diode to actually do a HW test, so I'll have to trust my BIOS readings for now...

I tried upping voltage on the NB and DIMM's (see sig for complete specs) to no avail. I set my PCI lock to 33 and PCIE to 100. I'm testing two sets of RAM at relaxed and Dual Channel config: 2x512 Kingmax Hardcore DDR500 3-4-4-10 and 2x512 Corsair ValueSelect DDR400 2.5-3-3-6.

So, what are my options here? Any thoughts? I haven't seen many people experimenting with the new Deleron E0's, so I don't mind being a test subject... :D

True, there are about a half dozen peeps over there that are kinda "off on their own" in this game.....but still, you know what I meant. ;)

I know though, we're still naggin' him to get some benchies posted. :p
 
what about C0 chips ? I got a 3.2E C0. currently at 45 idle, 55 under load with stock cooling and running @ 3.4 only (no need of more...) and my kingston valueram will probably block me from going over 3.6 except if I used 5:4 ratio ... ill check later.

What are you using to monitor your temps.....and what are you doing to GET those temps.....cus even for stock cooling, a 10C delta between idle and load seems a tad small for a Pressy.
