Ok so i got my prescott from newegg (refurbished, ordered friday, received monday!) love newegg, have been buying junk from them for almost 4 years now... spent roughly 4000 bucks lol... anyways... i installed the processor onto my max3 mobo with my ddr 400 dual corsair xms (2x512mb sticks) and overclocked with 1:1 ratio, got up to 3.36 and ran great!!! only prob is that my cd-rom/rw/dvd-rom drive got bitchy and started getting really slow, other than that, everything worked like a dream love this thing... one question though, since it is only 533 mhz fsb, would i get any really performance gain by setting the ram to 5:4 and dropping the timings? i havent even looked at the timings right now, i wonder if they are maybe as low as i want them to go.... hmm curious.. anyway, ill be getting an exos pretty soon, then ill try and reach 3.7 ;) anyone got any suggestions on how to obtain ultimat maximum performance out of this thing? i know the fsb is weak but ill need better cooling to get it up high enough, 800 mhz hopefully, that wont be tooooo bad i guess.... any ideas? too bad i can change the multiplyer :'(

Gratz an a nice OC with your Prescott :) If only I were so lucky (more on that later). Depending on how conservative your ram timings are atm, you could see *up to* a 10% increase in system performance. That 10% could be the difference between cyber life or death, or it could just be a shot to the ego. Depends on how you use your computer. I would check to see if you have the latest firmware for your DVD drive, but if the only effect to your OC is a downsped DVD drive, then take it. To reach 3.7, you'll most likely have to up the Vcore AND go with watercooling, TEC, both, or more extreme. A couple of online reviewers running Abit AI7s hit a wall just shy of 3.7 with their Prescott 2.4s. It doesn't mean that you'll have the same results, but the chips are stacked against you (pun unintended). And remember, a high quality 400+ watt PSU is your best friend.

That said, I can't get my Prescott to cooperate at all. Check my sig for what I have. My memory timmings are stable at 2.5-5-2-2, but my system doesn't even like it when I bump up the fsb from 133 to 135! My computer just reboots during the Windows startup. I also bought Prescott 2.4 at Newegg when they were having a sale for $119. My stock idle temps are right around 40C and my load temps will hit 50C. My case temps are stable at 28C. The only thing that's a little wierd that I can think of atm is that Sandra tells me that my CPU should be running at 1.4 volts, but my bios settings start at 1.5 volts. But +0.1 shouldn't hinder my OC efforts--they should help them, right?
