Prepair for the Future! {Fallout 3]

That site rocks! Fallout 3 looks amazing. I can't wait to play it :D

I'm not sure how people will take this but I've came to a distinct feeling of how the game appears to me.

Post-Apocalyptic BioShock with a stronger gameplay element & customization

I loved BioShock but felt that it could've had a stronger dive into the RPG element. This is why I want to play Fallout 3 & enjoy it.

I'm excited for Fallout3 and yes, i'm getting it for the .... 360!! mwuhahahahha

Sweet thanks for the link. I cant wait. The orginal fallout is one of my favorite old scholl games.

I want to see if I can remake my H2H stealth killer from Fallout 2.

Punching a guy with bloody mess and watching half of his body burst and spray all over the ground never got old.

My prediction:

Hardcore Fallout1/2 fans will absolutely hate the game, with good reason. Unfaithful to canon, lost feel, ruined franchise, etc.

People who never played Fallout 1/2 will love the game. This is their first true, post-apocalypse game.

Good prediction, I agree actually.

I have played every single Fallout game, Fallout two being my favorite. I consider myself a pretty hardcore fan of the post apocalyptic genre and I like Fallout 3. I'm not expecting it to deliver what Fallout 1 and 2 did , but I can see that Bethesda is trying to do there best to breathe new life into the series.

You talk about ruining a franchise? You obviously haven't played Fallout:Brotherhood of Steel for the Xbox. Yeah why dont you go research that little gem.

I have to disagree. I think if you liked Oblivion and you liked Bioshock that you will enjoy Fallout 3.

People who consider themselves "Hardcore Fans" of the original Fo1/2 games, and won't play Fo3 because they feel it's unfaithful, misguided, or that it ruined the franchise, are idiots.

Absolutely awesome site. Really shows how devoted Bethesda is to capturing the Fallout feel.
My prediction:

Hardcore Fallout1/2 fanboy purists with no ability to adapt to modern games will absolutely hate the game, for no good reason. New story, fresh feel, reimagined franchise, etc.

Fixed. :D

All of my friends that have a total hard-on for the Fallout series think Fallout 3 looks amazing.

Indeed, Bethesda cares about there fans and it show's. Unlike some companies out there. *cough* EA.

I can't wait for the $2 horse armor. I wonder if all the bandits are going to be wearing power armor later on. Hurray for mod community.

Sorry, I really wish I could return Oblivion. Let me know how Fallout 3 really turns out after the hype has settled. LOL!

Funnily enough, in a recent interview, Todd Howard (Fallout 3 Executive Producer) said that Bethesda realized how insufficient the whole "Horse Armor" thing was, and has promised that Fallout 3 DLC will be much "meatier". They also have addressed, several times, that enemies will not level up with you in the game, about the only thing that might change between enemies are their weapons, and not very big changes at that.

If ya try keeping up with a game, maybe you wouldn't be so pessimistic about it. ;)

Indeed. Why should I have to tell you how it turns out, you could play the game yourself, that is if your not too busy snooping around peoples public photobucket accounts looking at half-naked people, self control is paramount.:D

Playing it would require buying it, and I'm not falling for the same trick twice, because see, I've learned my lesson. And who's photobucket is it again? Yours. Who took the effort to upload it? You. That's not my pic in my photobucket, its your pic in your photobucket, I wish I could unsee it. And those Oblivion screens you have showcase the only good quality about it. It was pretty. Whoop-de-doo.

Oh, and I see you made it private now. LOL! Nice. ;)

I keep up with games I know will be good. From companies who throughout the years have gained AND kept my trust. Companies such as Valve, Blizzard, Id, etc. After the garbage we can call Oblivion was released, I had high hopes, I really did. I played it for over 80 hours trying to like it, trying hard to like it. In the end it was just a steaming pile. Good luck with Fallout 3.

:EDIT:

Sorry if I'm raining on everyone's parade. I hope it does turn out to be great, but the track record is tainted. The milk has been soured. Good luck, you all will need it.

Thank you for the compliment on my Oblivion pictures, its pleases me knowing that you took the time to view them, although it does baffle me that a person such as yourself who dislikes something would take the time to view it. Again , I shouldn't have to defend myself on the picture, It was a half-naked man playing on an apple computer, and was quite funny, stop making mountains out of molehills and move on please. On the other hand it may be hard for your judging by your Forum name.... oops no pun intended.;)

One more thing I would like to know though, why would you put 80 hours into a game that you dislike so much? Could it be that subconsciously you really did like the game, it just took 80 hours for you to consciously tell your subconscious you didn't.

Anyways, back to FALLOUT 3!

incase nobody knows www.planetfallout.com is now up and running too. Go there and check out some of the previews and info if you haven't already!

Hey atleast I'm honest. Oblivion does look great. And that's exactly where it ends too. Seeing as how you frantically set your photobucket to private was pretty amusing though. And about my name, that's up to the end user to interpret. :)

Yeah, back to Fallout 3. I hope it's the best game to hit man kind and brings thousands of hours of enjoyment. :D

you still didn't answer my question about your 80 hour Oblivion lineage.:(

Oh hey check this out, it came strait from the Edge newsletter, they got to spend 60 minutes playing the game, and this is one of the key points they made.

"Bethesda, giving us our first substantial hands-on play with its controversial sequel to the Black Isle PC classic, start us not at the beginning, but the beginning of the real game. It’s the moment analogous to you leaving the first dungeon in Oblivion, with your previous youth in the Vault acting as an extended character-creation and training sequence. In other words, it’s the first point you get to truly define your destiny – and, for many, that section was one of Oblivion’s high points – the second when all is possibility. Seeing it reprised here isn’t something to set alarm bells ringing; it’s actually enormously comforting. So while it may be Oblivion with guns, that label is as obfuscatory and useless as arguing that Planescape Torment was Fallout with swords and a regenerating corpse".

Now if you have played both you will perfectly understand this paragraph. I never really looked at it that way but it does make sense.

I lol'd: PornoSatan 1 Half naked guy 0.
I still have Fallout 1 and 2 in my desk drawer. The best rpg ever made. Even it ends up with no replay value and gets boring after X amount of hours like Oblivion its looking pretty good so far. If it gets an 8 across the board with review sites like 1up I think its worth buying.

you still didn't answer my question about your 80 hour Oblivion lineage.

I replied during one of your many edits as you can see from the quote. I'm pretty hardcore when it comes to gaming. 80 hours is nothing to me, except perhaps a fair amount of time to conclude whether or not one likes a game. Sure there were parts I enjoyed, most being visual, but I don't play games for visuals alone. Let's get this thread back on track now. I'll start:

Fallout 3 is going to be the ___ (next poster continue, I'm done with this thread)

So it took you the greater part of two full work weeks to finally realize you had a problem with the game? Did you at least live up to your "Hardcore" name and finish it ? or did it end up being a "Hardcore" failure on your part? Do us all a favor and don't blame the game for your shortcomings.

Fallout 3 is going to be the opidomy of kick ass!.

Hardly, just yet another run-of-the-mill could've-been-a-masterpiece dumbed down console game like Oblivion was. No thanks.
Bethesda can go.... If they really cared about the fans they wouldn't have done THAT to Oblivion after what Morrowind was.

That all depends on what "your" idea of a masterpiece is.

Well, he has a point. Oblivion WAS dumbed down from Morrowind, and Morrowind WAS dumbed down from Daggerfall.

So, is it wrong of us to expect the same out of Fallout 3?

Sorry, I really wish I could return Oblivion.

Well, if it helps at all, I enjoyed your comment and found it funny. :)

I never played Fallout but after watching that video and the feel I get it seems similar to Bioshock... or is it the other way around?

Try to focus young one,

Fallout is a computer role-playing game produced by Tim Cain, developed by Black Isle Studios (though before the studio was named "Black Isle") and published by Interplay in 1997. The game has a post-apocalyptic setting in the late 22nd century, though its story and artwork are heavily influenced by the post-World War II nuclear paranoia of the 1950s.

The game is sometimes considered to be an unofficial sequel to Wasteland, but it could not use that title as Electronic Arts held the rights to it, and, except for minor references, the games are set in separate universes. It was also intended to use Steve Jackson Games's GURPS system, but that deal fell through, forcing Black Isle to change the already implemented GURPS system to the internally developed

Plot:
The protagonist of Fallout is an inhabitant of one of the government-contracted fallout shelters known as Vaults. In subsequent Fallout games, he or she is referred to as the Vault Dweller.

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world following The Great War, a nuclear war that occurred on October 23, 2077. Lasting less than two hours, the war caused immense destruction. Before The Great War were the Resource Wars, during which the United Nations disbanded, a plague rendered the United States paranoid, and Canada was annexed.

The game takes place in 2161 in Southern California and begins in Vault 13, the protagonist's home. Vault 13's Water Chip, a computer chip responsible for the water recycling and pumping machinery, has broken. The Vault Overseer tasks the protagonist with finding a replacement. He or she is given a portable device called the "PIPBoy 2000" which keeps track of mapmaking, quest objectives, and various bookkeeping aspects. Armed with the PIPBoy 2000 and meager equipment, which includes a small sum of bottle caps, which are used as currency in the post-apocalyptic world (They also appear in the sequel, Fallout 2, though the institution of a more conventional form of hard currency has rendered them worthless, as the player character remarks upon finding a hidden stash of caps), the protagonist is sent out into the remains of California to find another Water Chip.
The Master.
The Master.

The player initially has 150 days before the Vault's water supply runs out. This time limit can be extended by 100 days if he/she commissions merchants in the Hub to send water caravans to Vault 13. Upon returning the chip, the Vault Dweller is then tasked with destroying a mutant army that threatens humanity. A mutant known as "The Master" (previously known as Richard Grey) has begun using a pre-war, genetically engineered virus called Forced Evolutionary Virus to convert humanity into a race of "Super Mutants", and bring them together in the Unity, his plan for a perfect world. The player is to kill him and destroy the military base housing the supply of FEV, thus halting the invasion before it can start.

If the player does not complete both objectives within 500 game days, the mutant army will discover Vault 13 and invade it, bringing an end to the game. This time limit is shortened to 400 days if the player divulged Vault 13's location to the water merchants. A cinematic cut-scene of mutants overrunning the vault is shown if the player fails to stop the mutant army within this time frame, indicating the player has lost the game. If the player agrees to join the mutant army, the same cinematic is shown.

In version 1.1 of the game, the time limit for the mutant attack on Vault 13 is delayed from 500 days (or 400 depending) to thirteen years of in game time, effectively giving the player enough time to do as he or she wishes.

The player can defeat the Master and destroy the Super Mutants' Military Base in either order. When both threats are eliminated, a cut-scene ensues in which the player automatically returns to Vault 13. There he is told that he has changed too much and his return would negatively influence the citizens of the Vault. Thus he is rewarded with exile into the desert, for, in the Overseer's eyes, the good of the vault. There is an alternate ending in which the Vault Dweller draws a handgun and shoots the Overseer after he is told to go into exile. This ending is inevitable if the player has the "Bloody Mess" trait or has accrued significant negative karma throughout the game. It can be triggered if the player initiates combat in the brief time after the Overseer finishes his conversation but before the ending cut-scene.
