Hey guys, I just upgraded my computer recently to ASUS Maximus Formula mobo with a C2Q 6600 and 2gigs of corsair XMS2 pc2-6400 DDR2 ram and I want to overclock, but before that I did a memory diagnostic test with the default windows memory diagnostic tool, and it immediately said there was an hardware error that I should contact the computer manufacturer to fix the problem.

Is there something wrong with my ram? or is the windows memory diagnostic tool just a flake?

I had faulty ram in my previous system, it worked, but after a long time caused many crashes and gave me a huge headache. I don't want to go through that again. Anyone know whats going on?

windows has a memory diagnostic tool? wtf?
throw that away, download Memtest run it and hope for the best.

memtest failed every pass ... my whole screen is filled with red :(

does this motherboard not like 800mhz ram or something?

You might want to try putting the ram into the other set of slots to see if the motherboard has bad DIMM slots. Try testing with just 1 stick at a time too. Basically see if it the issue is the motherboard or RAM, and then you'll probably want to RMA whichever one is defective.

yes and disable USB Legacy Support on your BIOS settings, that is a MUST in order to check your memory correctly.

i will give that a try when i get home, thanks for the advice! I'll keep you guys posted
