Preferred Display not Always Working?

I have a 3x1 Eyefinity array, the center display set as Preferred.

Problem:

With the games that cannot handle the wide Eyefinity resolution (like Skyrim), I set the game resolution at that of a single display (1600x1200). Some games will play on the preferred display and the other displays are automatically shut off. Other games are just mirrored (cloned?) on all three displays.

Question:

Is there a name for this problem? I've tried searching for information on this issue but I haven't had much success.

Here is what I suggest. Make two profiles in CCC so you can hot key between multi desktop and eyefinity modes. You can set your preferred display in multi monitor mode for single screen gaming. You want these in extended mode.

Eyefinity mode for games you know will work flawlessly.

Or hell, just hop on WSGF and patch Skyrim to run on multiple monitors. Tis what I used to do all the time.

This works too, those guys are amazing at providing good patches for huds and fov too. Just be cautious if you're a steam gamer...

I got 2 vac bans by running these patches for eyefinity and it really sucks. One for cod mw2 and the other was CSGO of all things. Pisses me off... Steam wouldn't even entertain unbanning me on either game and you know damn well they know what cheat hacks affect what. I received an email in 2010 about 2 months after my cod ban stating that basically,if AMD won't provide a proper profile, hacking monitors to work is considered cheating in their eyes.
