Ok. so im on my schools LAN. I have a tivo which can't dial out because the schools's phonelines are digital PBX and any attempt at dialing will fry the modem. So, i have it connected to my computer via serial port and null modem adapter. Now, my Tivo can 'dial' and connect to my computer, but cant access the internet like it has to.

I have tried Kerio Winroute, which i was not able to get to do this. I've tried messing with win2k's route command, but thats not been very good to me. Besides, ive heard that windows packet shaping messes things up. Yay MS!

I am currently running win2k and Progeny (Debian) Linux, so if you know how to do this for either OS i'd appreciate it, however im not very good with linux so you'll have to babystep me through it.

Anyway, on my windows part, the tivo can connect to my computer. I know this because i can look at the logs for the 'modem' My settings for the port and the modem and the connection are 9600 (for testing reasons, if it works i may up the speed) 8 bits, No parity, 1 stop bits (defaults sofar) flow control off (necessary for TIVO) and bufffers all the way down. Heres a snippett from the log.

I dont know what these logs for a serial connection are supposed to look like, but i have the network icon appear when a connection is taking place, and that does pop up when i hvae my tivo dial out.

My Tivo's ip is 192.168.0.2 on Interface 2 (as described by the route print command, with 1 being the loopback connection 127.0.0.1 and 3 being my net connection). My PC's ip is 128.220.39.94 on interface 3, and 192.168.0.1 on Interface 1, and my gateway is 128.220.39.1 on Interface 3.

route print gives this:

Now, notice how 192.168.0.1 they say is on IF 1, not 2. I think that may be an issue. What i want to do is route 192.168.0.1 IF 2 to 128.220.39.1 IF 3 (my default gaetway). I would also like to do this without using the windows tools because of the aformentioned packet shaping issues. If anybody can tell me how to do this, i would be very appreciative.

I had another idea of possibly aliasing 192.168.0.1 to 128.220.39.1. In my theory, my connection would initiate the call, but all information sent back to the computer would be rerouted to the gateway. I dont know how this would work though, because I am not a network expert.
