I'm looking for a program that can replicate the functionality of the program "Powerstrip" which stopped being supported in 2009.
I have an HDTV that has inputs for HDMI, Component, and VGA. If I hook my HTPC up via HDMI, there is ridiculous overscan to the point that you can't even see the taskbar at the bottom, and there doesn't seem to be any built-in adjustments that allow me to adequately compensate (there is a slider in the control panel, it wasn't nearly enough). The best that I've been able to do is to hook the HTPC up to the HDTV via VGA, and use custom timings to eliminate the overscan. It has been functioning like this successfully for years now.
After rebooting my HTPC after updates, Powerstrip is now telling me it has "expired" to the extent that I can't even launch the program anymore. It previously would simply give you a prompt that the "trial" has expired but then you could click OK and continue. This new prompt is a simple dead-end that tells you to go to their store and buy a copy. Not sure what happened as the "trial" always seemed to last forever in the past. Seems like a dieing company trying to extract $$$ out of old software by forcing the few users that they still have to pay.
One thing I'm sure as shit NOT going to do, is pay $30 for a program that has been unsupported for 6 years and doesn't even officially support any OS newer than windows 7.
I would very strongly love to find a program that allows me to do what Powerstrip did. I'm either looking for a program that allows me to make manual adjustments to VGA timings, or a program that allows me to adjust overscan while using HDMI (much moreso than the tiny adjustment in the control panel).
