My father is a retired photographer and converted the garage to his studio. At the moment the home wireless network will not reach the studio. As I have not used a Powerline adapter I was hoping someone could recommend an inexpensive model that would work. I imagine he doesn't need 500Mbps in bandwidth but I could be wrong. Also is there a big difference in price between the models that feature WiFi on the user end compared to an ethernet connection? The listings I see mention "starter" kits I assume this is what he needs. Thank you for your time in advance.

Any chance he's got a phoneline wired into the garage? I reterminated a cat3 phone line going to my garage for ethernet and it's working well; I'm running it at 100BaseT, even though it shouldn't work on cat3 cable, but the run of cat3 is short.

Caution: Link rate does not equal data rate.

500Mbps powerline often only achieves 20-40Mbps throughput.

A good 500Mbps powerline setup measures around 80-90Mbps of usable throughput.

First gen 100Mbps powerline equipment often only achieve 1-3Mbps.
