Powering up computer issue

Im having a very strange problem when trying to start up my computer. When I press the power button, the computer does not turn on. At first I thought I had the connector on backwards. But that isnt the case. So I keep pressing the power button, and as time goes by more components start to light up. First the ethernet adapter, etc, then the RAM LEDs and then it finally turns on. Extremely wierd.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939. Power supply is an Antec NEO 480W. There was a problem with the mobo so I RMAd that and its back. Still having this starting up issue (which was also current before I RMAd the mobo).

Something that might be important info about the mobo is this DPS GOLD unit mounted right next to the CPU. Its used for some sort of powering to the CPU. More than that Im not sure of.

CPU: AMD64-FX53
GPU: BFG 6800GT
RAM: Corsair TwinX2048-3200C2Pro

Also 2 Maxtor HDs and a dvd burner. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Have you tried unplugging all of your peripherals (HDs, CD drives, etc) unnecessary for POSTing from both power and IDE/SATA cables?

Have you tried powering up the mobo outside of the case?

Good Idea. Ill try that next.

But, not really sure how powering the mobo outside the case would help tho.

Btw. When playing games sometimes the game just halts for a little, maybe 5 seconds, and then I can resume play. There are also some graphical issues while playing. Think that could be related to the power as well? Components might not be getting sufficient power?

oh, the computer does eventually POST?

If so, it sounds like your PSU may have some bad caps or something.

Yes, the computer does POST. Sorry I wasnt specific. Im going to try and swap the power supply to see if that helps. But with those components should 480W be enough to power the system?

Should be... you don't have anything that sounds like it could draw excessive amounts of power. So, given the information so far, it sounds as though there is a possibility that your PSU might be faulty in some way.

And here I thought the problem was my motherboard. I have nearly the same problem and I am using a Neo 480W as well.

If I have the PSU unplugged(only time I turn the system off) for more than and hour using the power switch will take 10-15 minutes to work(even tried directly shorting the jumpers). The easy solution I found is using a paper clip to short the green PSU wire with a ground. That gives the system the oomph it needs to start normally.

Well, it could still be the mobo. It just seems more likely that your issue is the PSU. Hopefully, you can find one to try in its place.
