Windows XP SP3
RealTek AC97 onboard
Sony SRS-A41
Speakers connected to Line-Out (back panel)
These are powered speakers, but they only work when they are powered off. In that case the sound is well audible, but far too low considering all PC based audio controls are at full volume. The speakers are unresponsive to volume adjustments using the physical control on the speaker.
The speakers do not work at all when they are powered on. Meaning no sound is audible when connected to the Line-Out. The speakers work fine when connected to a portable CD player and powered on. The speakers do not work, no sound is audible, when connected to a portable CD player and the speakers are powered off.
I am stumped. I have never even heard of behaviour like this before. Any ideas on what's going on and how to fix it?
