Where are all the powered by ATi/nVidia cards? There are all almost as same as the reference design and cooler. I have the Tyan Tachyon 9700Pro and I love the new cooler and the software that comes with it. The only that makes all the brands different is maybe an overclock and the bundle. Well thats my view, so speak your mind.
 
Um, that card you bought is powered by ATi. What did you smoke tonight?? can I have some??
 
I'm talking about where all the cards Powered by ATi or the Powered by nVidia. That aren't carbon copies of the reference card. You know the ones that stray from the stock design, kinda like Gainward and HiS.
 
I am going to TRY and answer this. Nvidia and ATI don't manufacture their own card's. Well I think ATI does, as I've seen ATI labeled Cards. Nvidia/ATI Develop the technology for the card, and companies such as Sapphire, eVGA, BFG, and MSI manufacture them. I'm not sure if ATI manufacturers their own cards, I've seen this one:

WELL, then in that case. Leadtek has done a sweet job on cooling the 6 Series. As far as the 7800 series goes, eVGA has the ACS cooling, and I think BFG is trying to develop some, watercooling device for the 7800's. I am more knowledgable in the Nvidia field than ATI. The only ati I know with a "l33t" cooler is the HIS. Though there really is not a need, most people who need to get their cards cooler ar OC'ers and they most of the time either Water Cool, or buy differenct coolers such as a zalman, or arctic cooling. Hope That Helped... :(
 
What am I trying to say is, remember the Hercules 9800, that was a "Powered by ATi card with a blue PCB and cool fan along with a LED and a slight overclock. Manufactorers don't really do that anymore, just slap their brand sticker on the cooler and thats it.
 
Placing "Powered By ATI" was a marketing slant to help promote the Radeon 9700 cards in 2002 when ATI adopted the business model of nVidia by outsourcing production to 3rd party companies. This also happened to be the exact time when the Catalyst driver suite was released.

nVidia started the stranglehold on the market with the TNT2 series which ousted both ATI's Rage128 and 3dfx's Voodoo 2. The Rage 128 Pro and MAXX were marketing failures.

As time progressed, ATI was letting the consumer market know that they were not to succumb to the oem alternative path that the Rage series was often viewed nothing more as. They did so by systematically releasing the Radeon 256, Radeon 7000 & 7500, and then the 8000 series.

Finally, the fully DirectX 9 part showed up, dubbed the Radeon 9700. This put a hurt on nVidia's dominance, and grew more rapidly in popularity than previous Radeon models. Following the release of the 9700, more variants in the 9000 family appeared, giving wide consumer range coverage.

To follow, the X series was released.... and the "Powered By ATI" moniker is still being used. You just have to search for it. Although many 3rd party vendors have changed to the new "Graphics By ATI/Certified" label....
