In general, how much does it cost to powdercoat the inside components of a case?
 
Free if you have your own equipment:D

I've never powerder coated computer stuff, just my car parts like supercharger, calipers, ect.

I would think most shops would charge $40 or so to powdercoat a case. As long as you give them nothing but a bare metal shell.

They would probably quickly bead blast it to give it a clean edge and then spray the powder on and let it bake 20 min or so and its ready.

That price would be for one color and about 50% or more for an additional color.
 
I got quoted $35 for flat black (No fingerprints! :D) from a local shop. However, they also said other colors would be a lot more expensive since they don't typically get bulk orders for them.
 
i paid $50 for mine in satin black. It was a larger case though (Cosmos S). He said he would do my RC-690 for $40.

Had it down last sept., this included them sandblasting a coat of crap rattle can off the entire frame as well. Dropped it off, 3 days later it is a beaut...sorry to whore her out again...

This just totally made my day. :) I am in Indy and debating doing some powder coating of the ATSC case I will be purchasing soon from the egg and was wondering how hard it would be to find someone to do powder coating. And then the answer cometh :D like manna from heaven.
 
I've been considering powder coating or anodizing my ATCS RC-840, and for EndersShadow... make sure you're comfortable in getting the thing back together tight again; they use a pneumatic rivet gun at the factory, and the tolerances are pretty tight with regard to getting everything straight going back together. I believe you have to drill ~12 rivets to get this particular case apart. Not something I'm really looking forward to.
 
Powdercoating. If you have it anodized, it will fingerprint.
 
Wow didn't realize how cheap it was to do. Do you have to strip all components completely off to powdercoat? Also, if there're scratches do you think the sandblasting prior to powder would get rid of them or would you have to sand them off prior?

It's going to be inside... only inside, and the back panel. The whole case is anodized, and anodizing adds a thinner layer to the metal, so I figured it would be preferable. I seriously doubt fingerprints will ever be an issue.
 
I think the front of my case is Anodized brushed aluminum. It's just it's plain silver color, but if i were to get the inside powdercoated, i'd want the outside of my case (all aluminum) anodized. I wouldn't be able to see the Coolermaster and ATC badge any more though. (ATC-101) I'm starting to think that with the cost of powder coat, anodizing, and modding my ATC-101 to be up to spec with todays systems, i could just go out and buy a black ATCS-840. What are your thoughts?
 
Bump. I also have the ATCS 840 and was wondering how the quality of powder coating would be if I removed the plastic parts and kept the case together to send to a shop to powder coat. The reason being I'm a noob and don't fully know how difficult it is to re-assemble a case with pop rivets. Would anyone think that sending it to the shop (mostly) assembled would not look good coming back?
 
No shop is going to take it assembled, so it's a moot point. If they do take it assembled they'll be charging you for disassembly...

that's what I thought too but I called a shop here in town and they said they would blast it assembled, and by assembled I mean bare metal as in this pic:

Whoever told you this is just flat out lying, you don't have to buy a lot of powder at once.
 
whats this about anodizing and fingerprints? do some anodizers get sloppy and leave fingerprints on your stuff?
 
I have always wanted to powder coat a case. Can this be done at any car painting business? I'm an automotive nub when it comes down to it, so I have no clue.

Also, if I want it done a specific color, such as a dark red with metallic bits in it (you know... like the glitter when you look closely in car paint), is such a thing possible?

Its not buying the powder, its actually coating it.
If they do lots of things for other customers, then they can just add your case when they come to powdercoat the rest of some other customers, they can do it all at once and it saves them lots of time, this saving is then passed on to you.
 
It doesn't save lots of time, the only thing with switching powders is you have to blow out the gun with compressed air and screw on another jar...

Powder coating and painting are totally different and use totally different equipment, so odds are most places don't do both. And to get a good feel of the coatings possible, look on eastwood's or Tiger Drylac's websites, which is where most people obtain powders.

they also have to run the oven with just your part in it. in addition to mixing finding and mixing the powder, blowing out the gun, and whatever else is involved. if they are already doing some flat black part, they just put the case in there and spray it too. if you want another color they have to do an entire run just for your case. its gonna be more.

That will work, but you have to drill out several rivets to get to that point...
 
Do you guys know of any shops or individuals that powder coat and allow you to ship them your case instead of delivering it in person? I haven't found anyone close to me yet where I could get mine done because I'd like someone to do it that's actually done a few computer cases before and is able to take the chassis apart without me having to do that first.

I found a couple of guys that do it over at OCN forums but it's kind of expensive in comparison to what some of you guys have gotten yours done for. One guy (CyberDruid) quoted me $150 for a single color powder coat and the other guy is $110 for a single color + $50 to strip the paint if I have the exterior of the case powder coated as well. Even though it's kind of expensive I was thinking about going ahead with the first guy because he was going to do some other mods for me relatively cheap. Like $25 to cut me a triple rad in the top of the case and he has some nice radgrills on hand that he said he would sell me half price at $15. He also will cut me a window for $75. Performance-PCs charges $70 or more for the stock Lian Li window panels and I don't think they've even got one for the Lian Li PC-B70 yet. Are there any case modders here on HardForum that offer their services??

I wish this place here was located in the US. Marcus and those guys over there do some pretty fancy work.

I finally got my case back from powder coating. I drilled out every last rivet and gave it to the shop in 27 pieces. Getting it back together was a PITA, as you can't find countersunk rivets anywhere, and the tolerances now are off. But, it proved to have nice results.

uh...as far as i know you can only powder coat metal...?

Look into the duplicolor line of spray paint and make sure to get a good primer.
