I have a g4 powerbook with a dead HDD, I have the old one out, and I see it's IDE. I don't know a tremendous amount about macs, can I use any ide hdd? or is there a compatibility list or something I have to refer to?

I still think you need a 9.5mm drive (which is the most common size, at least). Just make sure you don't buy 12.5mm. But other than that, IDE is IDE.
