Power usage

Is there a way to monitor how much power is being used at one time, on your PC?
 
What do you want to know?

Do you want to know (1) how much power the PC uses including the excess consumption from the PSU?

Or do you want to know how much power the components use, and how much overhead your PSU has left?
 
I want to know how much power each component uses, and how much power the whole cpu running at a time, takes up.

In real time if possible.
 
There is no software solution for this. If there is, then it relies on some hardware. The answer is an ammeter. Just place the ammeter between the power source and the device. The ammeter will measure the current flow. Then you can do some calculations to figure the power usage. This should be quite trivial for devices like hard drives and even the whole computer, but it would be somewhat more involved for something like a cpu or a pci card.
