Power Switch

i'm in the planning stage of install a external powerbutton for my DVD and CD. Also planning to stealth the drives. i would like to use a toggle or fight pilot switches. well now i don;t know if i need a momentary switch or just any switch would do. and if i do need a momentary switch where can i get a toggle switch that is momentary.

How do you plan on powering these drives? If you're going to have them running off a seperate PSU, then you'd want an on/off switch for a wire loop between the green and a ground pin on the 20/24 pin connector.

I don't know why you'd want a separate power button for your CD/DVD drives. If that's really what you want, then you just need a regular on-off switch.

If you're actually wanting to replace the eject buttons, then you will need momentary switches.

umm what i was planning to do is to stealth the cd drive. and put a button to the side and use that button to open the cd drive.

So you want an eject button, not a power button? That makes more sense. You will just need a momentary switch. Most electronics suppliers like digikey and mouser will have them.

Can't tell you where to find them, but I think I remember seeing, at one point in my life, a spring-loaded toggle switch. Seems to me that would be momentary, no?

Yes, they exist, but are much less common than on/off toggles. It will take some searching to find one. I suggest looking at www.digikey.com and www.jameco.com.

There are also some momentary switches on that page, but I don't understand the nomenclature they're using to figure out which one you need. I'm thinking the on-none-momentary switch will work, but I'm not positive.
