I need to buy a power supply for my 2400+ I don't overclock and the only thing besides the hard drive will be a cd-rom drive which will be used infrequently so it doesn't need to be a top of the line, but it shouldn't be crappy either. Could anyone recommend a PS preferably one that I could buy from newegg.com since I am about to order some other stuff from there also?

Just a lower output Antec would be the best. You don't need much power with that setup, a 300 watt would do it, but go for a 350-400 watt for future expansion.

a 400 watt no name can actually output less than a 300 watt good brand PSU. Stability is also a major issue. I work for my colleges tech staff and i get alot of problems which sound stereotypically psu related, usually they got it custom configured from some website.

Sparkle is a good brand to look out for. Good stuff, but relatively cheap. Antec, Enermax, and others are also good. Just make sure its a farilyr reputable company and make sure that the model is not inherantly flawed.

Anything from the FSP Group, such as SPI, sparkle, enlight, or fortron will be great, in addition to Vantec, Thermaltake, Antec, Enermax, PC Power and Cooling, or TTGI/Superflower

All the listed psu's would be great choices. Pricecheck newegg and directron for all of them.

I believe enlight/thermaltake are not made by the same factory as the sparkle/fortrons(FSP). I just can't remember the name of the company that oems the enlight/thermaltake psu (tip of my tongue but i'm forgetting.

Enermax & TTGI superflower are built in the same factory though, and PCP&C use Sparkle/Fortron bases for many of their psu's as well.

I forget who makes the Vantecs

I'll recommend an "FSP" fortron/sparkle 300-350 watts. They're cheap and extremely high quality. Make sure it says "FSP" in the description to make sure you're buying the higher quality units they produce.

True Power 380 would be suffient for your needs.

My Antec 430w has the same size 12v output as that 500w Allied PSU.

Just because its an approved power supply by AMD doesn't mean AMD know anything about PSU's or have thoroughly tested the PSU's to see how well they perform against the other name brands.

Most generic PSU's use cheap parts and get alot hotter than quality brands like Antec, Enermax, Vantec, and Fortron. The hotter they get the more wattage they lose. ALOT more.

I would stick with an Antec True Power 430w. Nobody needs 500w of power even if the PSU was putting out that much which that Allied POS wont.

The Antec True Power is the EXACT same price as that Allied 500w PSU also.

I'd recommend the Enlight 420w, $35.99 at newegg. I have one, and it's a damn good power supply. Solidly built, heavy, and very stable voltages.
Yep, hard to beat their 420w at freaking thirty six dollars. I now have two of their 300w models ($9 refurbs look brand new!) and they're kick butt for little units. They even have active PFC (power factor correction). The 300w i have retails for $25 @ Newegg
