Power Supply vs. Battery

I left my computer on for almost a week and eventually turned it off last night. During that time my room got colder than usual because of the weather change.

When I woke up, I tried to turn on my computer, but nothing happened when I pressed the button. I opened up the case and I see that the power indicator on the motherboard was still turned on. All the cables were securely in place, including the case connectors.

From the light indicator, I was wondering if this is a safe bet to say that the power supply is okay? I was going to test the power supply, but everything is so tight in my computer, it would be easier to replace the battery instead.

I was wondering what you guys think I should do first.

all that means is that the psu is getting power to the board. that only means the psu or mobo isnt totally dead.btw if youre going to be poking around inside your case.....unplug the cable from the wall.

I just noticed that the light blinks... Does that change anything?

I just did a basic PSU test, by using a paper clip and connecting a power connector to a fan. The fan turns on and stays on, and the light on my PSU turns on but just for a split second.

Actually, the cable should stay plugged into the wall, although the PSU should be switched off.

I'm not sure what the light blinking means. Do you have another computer you can test the PSU with or another PSU that you can test your motherboard with?

Yes, I do. That is the next thing I'm going to try out. I'll let you know what happens.

Turns out it was the PSU. Better that than being the mobo.

I replaced the PSU with an older, lower wattage one... I'm hoping my OCZ 600Watt is sufficient!

Thanks guys!
