What is a good choice for one of those silent or nearly silent power supplies.

I want one that is a good brand and high quality, one that someone who knew a lot about electronics would think is good for sure.

Also, if you have 2 suggestions.. one that's good and maybe one that's good but also cost effective tell me that one also.

Best PC Power & Cooling Turbocool 510 ~$190
Next Antec True 550 ~$100

The PCP&C is badass but way too expensive. I have the Antec True480 and have been really happy with it. Not sure if $100 is what you meant by cost effective...but I would nevey buy a cheap pwer supply. It can end up causing too many problems.

Dude i can almost guarantee you dont need anything close to a 550w PSU. I dont know very many people that do.

Antec True Power 430w or Enermax 400w would be your best solution.

I would go for the Antec myself. Antec PSU's are very quiet, have a high efficiency rating, and run cooler then most.

Look into the Tagan 480w.

http://www.bit-tech.net/review/299/

Beats almost every other PSU out there and as the review says - it's silent.

In fact the only contender I've noticed is the 510 PC power and cooling which is is much more expensive and certainly NOT silent @ ~34-44 DbA compared to the Tagans ~21 DbA.

Edit: the Tagan is also BTX comptible so it'll work when the new form factor comes out and in fact is supplied with a converter.

The Tagan PSU's are good PSU's but it hardly beats every other one out there, especially Antec, Enermax, and Fortron. They only compared it against two other PSU's.

Its 12v variation alone is out of the +\- 5% area so i wouldn't call that stable voltages.

The Antec True Powers are the best for the money right now.

Those PSU's in the review are also suppost to be very quiet running power supplies so they will get hotter then an Antec and the hotter they get the more wattage is lost.

Antec 430w is what I have! Couldn't be happier. Much quieter then my old psu.

Another Antec True430, it's plenty of power and has rock solid rails.

I get kinda shifty rails on my truepower 430 antec.

on my oc'd system in my specs I'm running 3-10-3.25V on the 3.3 rail.

and the 12V rail drops to 11.85 occasionally.

I think i just may voltmod the 3.3rail dunn oabout the 12v

Look into the Tagan - all you needed to do is type tagan review into google to get a whole page of reviews and comparrisons. the below links to 5 mins if that.

I didn't say it beats EVERY other out there mate and you cant base an argument on the load regulator alone as lets be honest there's f-all in it.

it is better than the equivalent Antec - though it is close.
read this detailed review to compare the Antec and the tagan:

http://www.hardwarezoom.com/viewcontent.jsp?ReviewID=186&PageNo=11

Tagan comes out on top for power and overall has better power management with better rails. Build quality is, as can be seen fromthe rest of that review, superior.

One thing i'm not sure are prices in the U.S. or availability though but in England the Taan 480 can be had for £57 and £47 on special offer - you can see why I like mine so much.

What are you talking about the load regulator lol? I said that when tested with the multimeter in the first review the 12v alone was out of spec from where it should be. Undervoltage and Overvoltage are a serious issue with power supplies. The PSU is the #1 traceable piece of hardware in a computer that causes system instability and hardware malfunction. Tagan's are good power supplies but they are not better then Antec's. Antecs are the #1 recommended and used power supplies on nearly every hardware site on the net.

http://www.hardwarezoom.com/viewcontent.jsp?ReviewID=186&PageNo=11

In that review there lol, they got their test results out of the system BIOS. Well if they would of known anything about power supplies they would of known the BIOS does not give accurate readings. You have to know how to use a Multimeter to test voltage regulation.

Antec True Powers have been tested time and time again to come out with near perfect voltage regulation. They also do not have a combined 3.3v and 5v rail.

Very few places even carry Tagan PSU's. They dont have them on Newegg and i couldn't find them on pricewatch or pricegrabber ither.

Voltage regulation, power efficiency, and thermal output is everything when it comes to power supplies. Wattage rating means nothing.

Last time i checked Tagan PSU's in the US were pretty expensive. If i wanted a really expensive PSU then i would buy a PC Power and Cooling PSU which are hands down the very best you can buy.

And what about Tagan's customer support? Can you just send in and get a PSU replacement here in the US without any problems? You can with Antec.

And just because a site gives something a good review doesn't mean they knew what they were doing. I'm not saying Tagan's aren't good PSU's because they are. But stick with name brands like Antec that nearly everyone uses and have good customer support if anything goes wrong.

firstly:

Superficial-Taganexample.jpg

the test in the background is one of the most intensive graphics tests available featuring a multitude of photo realistic spheres in 'orbit' its at 16x multisample too. sorry about the quality :)

yes the +12 is shown in winbond but even so you'd have to admit it isnt gonna be that far out - THIS is a real world test.

Secondly: You need to pull your head in mate, lose that attitude. so what if I misunderstood?

Do you even know what the load regulation is?

http://www.3dvelocity.com/reviews/tagan/tg480.htm

check out the 'load reg' column on the blue/green comparrison table because that is what i'm talking about and thats what load regulation is. This chart shows us that where load regulation is concerned the table does indeed appear to support your argument as the table clearly shows the +12 at +/-3% for the antec and +/- 5% for the tagan but what it also shows you is that the Tagan is pushing considerably more current - for those who need serious power.

48A on the +12! come on it wees over the Antec

http://www.hardwarezoom.com/viewcontent.jsp?ReviewID=186&PageNo=11

"Compared with some of the PSUs we have reviewed in the past, Tagan produces much higher DC outputs than all the PSUs. On the other hand, Antec +5V output is lowest, in fact it is even lower than a Brandless 350W PSU that has just burnt out last month."

In that review there lol, they got their test results out of the system BIOS. Well if they would of known anything about power supplies they would of known the BIOS does not give accurate readings. You have to know how to use a Multimeter to test voltage regulation.

You've produced nothing - I've shown two comparrsions proving the Tagan is better and tangible evidence. All you can do is bang on that Antecs are better with no real evidence.

Last time i checked Tagan PSU's in the US were pretty expensive. If i wanted a really expensive PSU then i would buy a PC Power and Cooling PSU which are hands down the very best you can buy.

Not my fault is it - that was admitted in my last post and frankly is neither here nor there on this debate as we are currently talking about power and quality. They can be had for £47 here - almost half the price of the equivalent Antec and rest assured they will be available in more places soon enough.

And what about Tagan's customer support? Can you just send in and get a PSU replacement here in the US without any problems? You can with Antec.

They've only been going ~6 months give them a chance.

And just because a site gives something a good review doesn't mean they knew what they were doing. I'm not saying Tagan's aren't good PSU's because they are. But stick with name brands like Antec that nearly everyone uses and have good customer support if anything goes wrong.

what a silly attitude - my god you act as though Antec are amazing when you know they're far from it. but yeh lets all just keep buying named brands because everyone else does. If something goes wrong mate the comp goes with it! and frankly the Antec looks as though it was put together in rather a hurry in comparrsion.

EDIT: I didn't realise this post was going ot be that long - lol.

cheers

yes the +12 is shown in winbond but even so you'd have to admit it isnt gonna be that far out - also it sits at 12.23 when surfing. - THIS is a real world test.

Do you know what a multimeter is? Have you used one before? Its the only way your going to get an accurate reading. Your motherboard WILL NOT give an accurate reading. You have to test the 20-pin ATX connector with a multimeter.

Here is an article to show you how to do it:

http://www.extremeoverclocking.com/articles/guides/Power_Supply_Guide_1.html

Do you even know what the load regulator is?

Yes i know what a load regulator is, thats why i asked WTF you were talking about. I wasn't refering to the load regulator when i said +/- 5%. What i meant by the +\- 5% is that is the amount your PSU's rails should stay within. They shouldn't go more then 5% above or below on the 12v, 5, or 3.3v line. If they do then the PSU doesn't have good voltage regulation. In that first review you posted the Tagan 480w was already overvolting more then 5% on the 12v line. Any real amount of over or under voltage can and will cause permanant damage to hardware components.

You've produced nothing - I've shown two comparrsions proving the Tagan is better and tangible evidence. All you can do is bang on that Antecs are better with no real evidence.

The only thing you've produced are a few reviews from sites that know very little about power supplies. The only thing they did was post stats and take reading from within windows or in their BIOS. That doesn't cut it. You have to measure with a multimeter or dont bother doing it at all. You also have to determine actual wattage lost to heat.

As you can see here PC Power and Cooling are rated at 40c instead of 25c like Tagan and even Antec PSU's. The PCP&C 510w is actually a 600w PSU.

http://www.pcpowerandcooling.com/pdf/Turbo-Cool_510_vs.pdf

In the absence of any explicit PSU testing equipment, testing is limited to running an overclocked Athlon 64 testbed, with as many fans and disk drives as I could find, under 3D and CPU intensive loads, monitoring the voltages with Motherboard Monitor. It's barely scientific, but it allows some kind of qualitative assessment and comparison against my long-term supply, an Enermax 431W. Here's the setup.

http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews/review.php?dXJsX3Jldmlld19JRD02OTQmdXJsX3BhZ2U9NQ==

I'm sorry but MBM does not give an accurate reading ither.

http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1841&p=26

You can see the voltage regulation for the top PSU's out there. The Antec's hold very solid voltages and PC Power and Cooling is the best.

what a silly attitude - my god you act as though Antec are amazing when you know they're far from it. I've lost count of the amount of Antecs I've seen being complained about on the OcUK forums. but yeh lets all just keep buying named brands because everyone else does. If something goes wrong mate the comp goes with it! and frankly the Antec looks as though it was put together in rather a hurry in comparrsion.

Probably because there are hundreds and hundreds of Antec PSU's in use for every ONE tagan PSU. Thats why. Antec is one of the most widely used PSU's on the market. The more people that use them, the more people that are going to have problems. It would be the exact same way with Tagan if everyone used them.

Antec is one of the best if not THE best for the price it costs. The Antec True Powers are extremely solid and i've never had any issues. I build custom built gaming rigs along with workstations for quite a few people, a huge majority of the people here at HardOCP uses them, and we've had these convo's a million times before. I wish Ice Czar was around to chip in his 3 page posts on this stuff lol. I buy what I KNOW is the top name brands, i dont buy what everyone else is buying. If i did i'd be buying an A64 and i'm not :p.

Mate, you are officically an Antec Zealot. you have completely ignored the shear power advantage the Tagan has.

You're argument stinks - you pulled me up on offering an alternative and making a reasoned assumption based on reviews from multiple sources, manufacturers specs and personal experience and infer I'm wrong when in fact you have NOTHING to prove you are right except 'well err everyone uses them - they've been around for ages' - Christ if the law used that logic people would be guilty until proven innocent. BTW they have been around for 6 months and all they have received is praise.

SO WHAT if the Antec is a popular PSU - they go bang all the time. It's perfectly clear from efficiency ratings given by the respective manufacturers and photographs that the Tagan is superior in build quality - even you can see that.

There are no tests using a Multimeter comparing the two that I or you can find - ACCEPT IT - BUT I am using one right now with an overclocked 9800 Pro, overclocked P4C, 1gig of PC4000 and three Hard drives and I can assure you that there are no issues wth this PSU. no more can be said on the matter.

You have to see it from my POV: I got it for £47 after reading many a rave review, I bought it instead of my planned antec TruBlue 480 because of that and saved lots of cash. It's quieter, better built and cheaper not to mention that whatever reviews there are comparing them show the Tagan on top.

and God knows why your banging on about PC P&C - Expert as stating the obvious - sorry but you know its true.

^^ yet more reviews where the Tagan beats the Antec -this time a 550W

Mate, you are officically an Antec Zealot. you have completely ignored the shear power advantage the Tagan has.

I havn't ignored anything. I never said the Tagan PSU wasn't a good PSU. But your reviews aren't proving its better then an Antec because these places DO NOT know how to test a PSU. You cannot get accurate readings through MBM or any other windows or BIOS utility. The motherboard regulates the voltages itself and that is why sometimes when people are getting low voltages its because the motherboard is bad instead of the PSU. You HAVE to test with an external unit like a multimeter.

http://www.dirkvader.de/frame.php?site=http://www.dirkvader.de/page/tagan-tg480.html

I think you need to look over you reviews again lol. The Antec True Control 550w had more stable voltages and ran cooler then the Tagan and its a larger PSU and larger PSU's usually run hotter with less stable voltages because of less line load.

and God knows why your banging on about PC P&C - Expert as stating the obvious - sorry but you know its true.

And WTF does that mean in English?

I'm glad you got your PSU for cheap and i'm glad it works good for you and it is a good PSU but what reviews and links your providing are not proving its better then the Antec because most of them have no idea how to test a PSU and have no business trying to do so. Thats why you never see sites like HardOCP testing PSU's. If you dont know a whole lot about it then you dont need to be reviewing it.

I bought it instead of my planned antec TruBlue 480 because of that and saved lots of cash. It's quieter, better built and cheaper not to mention that whatever reviews there are comparing them show the Tagan on top.

Dude have you ever even had an Antec PSU or are you just going off word of mouth and what you've read? My Antec True Power 430w i'm using in my main rig is extremely quiet, runs very cool, and has rock solid voltages. You can get them retail for $60 or less almost anywhere. Good luck finding a Tagan PSU.

Mate i have shown you review after review - some even comparative all preferring the Tagan or showing it to be a fantastic PSU. I dont know who you think you are that somehow your pinion is more valuable then any of the supplied sites but it's borderline ridiculous now.

Your whole argument is essentially that I cant prove the Tagan provides stable voltages when this simply has not been an issue at all - quite the opposite.

One review sure - but they're all wrong? give me a break

yep - hold my hands up to that - a lot of PSUs on that page and I was looking at the wrong one. Fair enough. pat yourself on the back if you like as it proves nothing anyway.

And WTF does that mean in English?

"PC P&C" = PC power and cooling and you know it - or if you cant figure out what that refers to then seek help as it's the only thing in your post it possibly could refer to.

You were completely going off base with that nonsense - it was irrelevant and you were padding your post out with it and trying to sound as though you actually have more of a clue than anyone else by stating obvious facts in my opinion.

As for the rest - your arrogance is really comical - I mean really, who are you to discredit anyones opinion let alone a multitude of similar views? no one.

Dude have you ever even had an Antec PSU or are you just going off word of mouth and what you've read? I mean WTF? are you ok? because I could swear the price/location issue has been already addressed.

Do I really need to have owned one? they have been around a long time and there have been a million reviews on them and now sites are going as far as to call the Tagan an "Antec Beater" - a statement not made lightly by any site. In anycase your argument doesnt hold water considering you've hardly heard of Tagan let a lone had experience with one.

Oh and I think we have both established that we both have PSUs that work well thanks - just mine can supply considerably more current than yours along the +12 and +5v's.

I find it quite funny that the OP's point is being ignored. He wanted a silent PSU.

Check out http://www.silentpcreview.com/section4.html for PSUs review based on noise level.

As for the discussion about Antec vs Tagen, if you would care to look at Burninggrave's other posts, it's obvious that he isn't biased towards Antec... He recommeneds quality PSUs.

As for the stability/quality of Tagan, I don't trust reviews that use software measurement for said reasons, but there isn't enough data for me to make a say one way or another. One of these reasons is that Tagan IIRC is British, making it less available to US reviewers. I know that Tagan is held in high regard at 2cpu.com for dualie systems.

There are people that use Deer PSUs without problems, but that doesn't mean that Deer is a good PSU brand.

Every single one of those reviews you provided used software monitoring. You obviously aren't hearing me when i keep saying over and over again that it WILL NOT show an accurate reading!!! Get that through your head. My opinion is as good as any of theirs because i actually know how to actually test a PSU and get accurate results which they obviously dont. Anybody can write a review. Most of them just copy and pasted stats. I'm a networking and engineering major and i also work with all different kinds of power supplies in different systems on a daily basis. Some of these people that write reviews dont even have so much as a degree in anything that relates to computers and they have maybe a few certificates at best. So just because it gets posted online doesn't make it any more credible then what someone tells you right here on the forum.

Considering you have no experience with Antec or other name brand PSU's here in the US i dont think you can comment on how well they perform. No i havn't used a Tagan and thats because they aren't readily available in the US and there are better PSU's i would use even if they were. Tagan is a new company and they havn't proved anything. Their power supplies could just start dieing after a couple years. They have no credibility yet other then what some ignorant reviewers are saying about them that have no clue how to test a PSU. So if thats the basis for making them an "Antec Killer" its an extremely poor one.

From your replies its easy to see you have extremely little experience with PSU's. Otherwise you wouldn't make such ignorant comments. I could care less if a Tagan PSU can supply more wattage on the 12v and 5v lines because my workstation is 3 times the size of your system in your sig and it only draws around 350w max.

As for the stability/quality of Tagan, I don't trust reviews that use software measurement for said reasons, but there isn't enough data for me to make a say one way or another. Are they not German manufactured?

"the majority of damaged RAM returned to memory manufacturers is destroyed by fluctuations in the voltage."

Winbond Launches New Bus Termination Regulator April 4th 2003

"Winbond Electronics Corporation, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today launched the W83310S, a new DDR SDRAM bus termination regulator. The solution, new to Winbond's ACPI product family, is aimed at desktop PC and embedded system applications with DDR SDRAM requirements.
Computer systems architectures continue to evolve and are becoming more complex; CPU and memory speeds continue to increase ever more rapidly with every technology turn. More and more high current/low voltage power sources are required for PC systems. This is particularly true for high-speed components such as CPU, memory, and system chipsets. The performance of these components is highly dependent upon stable power. Therefore, motherboard designers require accurate, stable, low-ripple and robust power solutions for these components.

Well I read a review over at Tom's Hardware and I don't know how good they are at testing, but they scored the Antec PS's a little above and being better overall than the PC P&C. Personally, I think that PC P&C is overbiased and overpriced.

You indeed an arrogant Zealot. Such that I've never come accross before. You are no one mate GET REAL - just a guy with an opinion which is not even an educated guess. if in fact Antec and Tagan had come onto the market at the same time your argument would fall flat on it's face because I wouldn't need to justify the stability of it rails and 'prove its worth'.

You act as tough the Tagan is a POS when in fact just by looking at it' innards you can tell more thought has gone into its design - from the push-pull fan operation to the enourmous heatsinks to deal with the temp. frankly it makes the Antec look cheap.

Get it through my head? FFS - there are no ******* multimeter reviews what do you want? - This issue CANT BE PROVEN EITHER WAY - GET THAT INTO YOUR HEAD! and this has been said already.jesus  and just because it cant be proven doesn't make you right.

all that can be looked at and decided on with any degree of conviction are stated out puts, efficiency, build quality OK? - I'm sorry if you dont want to accept it and want to continue repeating the blindingly obvious but the Tagan largely wins in those areas.

This is gold! lol. No experience? - I've owned poxy enermax and antec are better than they in my opinion - what are you trying to say? - that they are somehow magically better accross the ocean? lol - what a stupdd thing to say. In anycase we are talking about Antec.

you sound like a petulent child - 'never heard of 'em - they're rubbish and everyones stupid except me' - you know longevity is something that cannot be debated on this issue yet but looking at the build quality my money i definately on the Tagan. I'm sorry but it's obviously better made.

You can rubbish the reviews all you like - wont change the fact that you've offered nothing except rebuke.

From your replies its easy to see you have extremely little experience with PSU's. Otherwise you wouldn't make such ignorant comments. I could care less if a Tagan PSU can supply more wattage on the 12v and 5v lines because my workstation is 3 times the size of your system in your sig and it only draws around 350w max.

this is AN ADVANTAGE!!!! my intent is to display an advantage that the Tagan has over the equivalent Antec and i have succeeded. there is nothing ignorant about it mate - grow up its what we are debating afterall FFS.

FYI Tagan are German with American partners I believe.

EDIT: I think we should just agree to disagree on this issue BurningGrave as this debate is going nowhere except perhaps towards Vitriole. I feel I have made an argument which has yet to be disproven and you feel the same- fair enough. I don't think this issue is important enough to put any more time into.

The Tagan is silent (~21DbA) as I believe is the Antec.

You indeed an arrogant Zealot. Such that I've never come accross before. You are no one mate GET REAL - just a guy with an opinion which is not even an educated guess. if in fact Antec and Tagan had come onto the market at the same same your argument would fall flat on it's face because I wouldn't need to justify the stability of it rails and 'prove its worth'.

Unsupported opinion. You think you sound like any less of a Zealot? Because you dont. Antec has been proven time and time again. Tagan has not, so your trying to come in and prove something with a few reviews from people that dont know to accurately test a PSU.

You act as tough the Tagan is a POS when in fact just by looking at it' innards you can tell more thought has gone into its design - from the push-pull fan operation to the enourmous heatsinks to deal with the temp. frankly it makes the Antec look cheap.

Unsupported opinion from someone thats never used an Antec PSU.

Get it through my head? FFS - there are no ******* multimeter reviews what do you want? - This issue CANT BE PROVEN EITHER WAY - GET THAT INTO YOUR HEAD! and this has been said already.jesus and just because it cant be proven doesn't make you right.

There are no multimeter reviews for it because the people that are reviewing it dont know what their doing lol. Their using their BIOS and MBM5 which any noob can do and yet it doesn't give accurate readings. It only reports what the motherboard thinks not what the PSU is actually doing.

all that can be looked at and decided on with any degree of conviction are stated out puts, efficiency, build quality OK? - I'm sorry if you dont want to accept it and want to continue repeating the blindingly obvious but the Tagan largely wins in those areas.

Opinion, no support for that ither.

no experience - I've owned poxy enermax and antec are better than they in my opinion - what are you trying to say? - that they are somehow magically better accross the ocean? lol

Dude give it a rest. Antec PSU's last for years and years. They are of top build quality. Do you even know who makes Antec PSU's?

I could post 500 reviews of Antec PSU's and the reason i havn't is because there is no point because noone here is reviewing the Tagan PSU's. There are extremely few reviews on the Tagan PSU's and the ones that you have supplied might as well never have been done because they are about as accurate as me looking at the PSU and telling you how stable the rails are.

this is AN ADVANTAGE!!!! my intent is to display an advantage that the Tagan has over the equivalent Antec and i have succeeded. there is nothing ignorant about it mate - grow up its what we are debating afterall.

There are generic 600w PSU's that put out more then that. Wattage ratings doesn't mean anything at all and you would know that if you knew anything about PSU's. Most high end uniprocessor systems never use over 300-350w.

Nobody said the Tagan PSU's weren't good and sucked. You said that because your full of it. You said they were better then Antec and all the other PSU's out there and thats where your wrong because theres no support for that. Tagan hasn't been around long enough to prove anything and you can't hardly even find them for sale in the US. I'm glad you think their so much better then Antec but i doubt you will find very many people here on HardOCP that will agree with you and the people here at Hard forums are among the most hardware knowledgeable on the net.

You need to quit believing everything you read in reviews especially when they clearly dont know what their doing.

You need to settle down a relax a little dude cause noone said your PSU sucked. You just registered and half your post count is from this thread.

lol mate take a look at yourself. your posts have turned into a ridicluous cycle of one-upmanship goding petty insults with no evidence - at the very least I have provided that in whatever form.

your entire position can be summed up in one sentence "Antec have been around longer and proved themselves" - thats how linear it is.

That you think because I've no personal experience with Antec is relevant is illogical because we require evidence here in whatever form which you've no real proof of.

believe what you want - im not trading vitriolic remarks with you any longer its just pathetc now and believe me it is you that needs to settle down. the effiency and rail ampage are in the manufacturers information shown in the reviews i linked to.

I was hoping to end this debate with a modicum of civility when I edited my last post but whatever.

cheers

Where is your evidence? The reviews you've posted dont count because they didn't even test the power supplies right. The reason i havn't posted any Antec vs. Tagan reviews is because there aren't any worth posting in this thread. There are hundreds of Antec reviews out there that have been tested accurately and show the Antec PSU's as being the top PSU's with PC Power and Cooling and Fortron Source.

My entire position is around the fact they are better then most all of the power supplies that are out now that they HAVE been tested against. And alot of the people that have tested them actually knew how to do it with a hardware monitoring tool such as a multimeter.

I dont know where you get off thinking some reviews from sites that have no background in knowledge of PSU's and dont even bother to test them right makes any point at all.

Their specs dont mean anything. They have to be actually tested and done correctly, and in the reviews you posted they were not. Why do you keep saying this over and over again? Dont you get it? The reviews were worthless for anything other then to see the specs of the PSU's and how they perform in a noobs point of view with BIOS monitoring tools.

If you wanted to end this civily you shouldn't of said all the ignorant unfactual things in your posts that you did like -

You indeed an arrogant Zealot. Such that I've never come accross before. Antec PSU's have been used for years and shown they are among the very best. How can tagan possibly be better then Antec when hardly anyone is using them and noone has tested them for long periods of time? They can't be and wont be until they have been around for a while and actually get tested by people against other quality name brands that know what the hell their doing.

What you dont seem to understand is that i dont have to prove Antec is better then Tagan with a review between the both of them. Antec is the one thats been proven time and again for years against other top name brand PSU's. Antec doesn't have to continually prove themselves as being among the best or being better then Tagan. Tagan is the underdog and hasn't been around for very long and THEY are the ones that have to prove their better. And the reviews you've posted do not prove that.

burningrave101 - Honestly, you've said it in EVER POST and he doesn't comprehend that multimeter = best testing method, so why even bother replying anymore? It's like talking to a brick wall and that's about as much fun as hitting your thumb with a hammer. I would just quit and ignore it if I were you bro. :D

can I get a copy of that sphere test thingy. Is it shareware?

Well, an oscilloscope would be a bit better than a multimeter, but I digress ;)

Proper testing is VITAL to determine which PS is better than the other.

lol it's been acknowledged already mate  but it is not the be all and end all of this argument. Learn to read. and the debate is over...for all that it was.

I dont believe the method of testing power supplies wether it be software or multimeter is flawed as long as all supplies are tested in the same way on the same test bed. Further more when you get two high quality supplies there is a high probability that one would beat the other on any given day with any given test since the winner statisticaly would be determined based on an individual supply. I venture to guess that you could take 10 Tagans and 10 Antecs and using multimeter or Software they would most likely split rigth down the middle as far as which performed better . That is to say 5 Antecs would beat 5 Tagan and 5 Tagan would beat 5 Antec.

or 6-4 and 6-4 what ever the proportion. That would only leave engineering for long term viability. I would suggest that the issue of which is best could be finalized with long term reliablity study. Such a study should be conducted by Hard OCP in the context of over clocking over a say 6 month period?
