Doing some custom wiring for a new Lian-Li PC-70 case and and have run across a couple of slight problems. I have an Enermax 431w PS. It has only 4 sets of wires coming out of the supply. They have the normal double HD molex connectors and two (2) of them also have the FD connectors as well.

From recent explorations of another Enermax supply it appears that the four (4) sets of outputs are somewhat arbitrary. IOW, each set of wires appears to go to the same output of the PS circuit board.

What I am wondering is do you think it would be detrimental to add another 1-2 output sets? I have already shortened two (2) of the output sets and am also considering adding about 12" to the other two (2) output sets.

In case your wondering what this is all about I want my wiring nice and neat and will be fastening the wiring to the case frame with nylon clamps. Since I am customizing the PS to the case I want to have six (6) power connectors to be available to the lower case HD rack and five more power connectors to go to the four (4) HD's in mobile racks. And of course I will need to have two (2) FD type connectors to feed my 3.5" bays.

The last question is whether my 431w PS can handle four (4) 10K SATA drives, a DVD burner, ZIP drive, and 3.5" FD? If it helps any I get about 40 minutes of run-time on my Smart-UPS 1000 with my current 2 SATA drives, 1 IDE drive, DVD burner, ZIP, and FD.

1. you can add more pig tails by soldering new wires to the power buses. Each voltage rail will have a common connection point on the PSU, and ground all have a common point.
You can also use a simple splitter on an existing pigtail to get the extra molex connectors. 18 awg stranded copper shouldn't have a problem handeling 6-8A over a couple of feet.

2. Assuming the rest of your system is what's in the sig, it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the info! My soldering iron is starting to smoke and my dikes are ready to snip snip ;)
