Does the [H] think a 1000W BFG power supply is enough to run 4 GTX260's? It only has the 4 6pin connectors so I would have to get a few more of those. Suggestions, comments...

 
depending on what processor you are running i think it should be ok.. (notice the "think" part.. :p lol)
 
arg where is zero82z when ya need him.. he would know for sure if it will work..
 
Kendrak was running Three 260's in one of his boxen, so he would be the ultimate resource there. I'm not sure what kind of PS he was running, but I would imagine that a 1kw PS should be able to handle it.
 
if you want to make sure grab 2 750 watt corsairs or something and just run them both :)
 
I have run 2 192core 260's from a single Corsair VX550w before with no problem. (System was a P4 3GHz with 4GB Ram and a MSI P35 chipset motherboard)

The only 1kW PSU that BFG made is not a very good unit, and was in fact the very first PSU reviewed by HardOCP (and it failed testing): http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTI5MCwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

I would not recommend running three GTX260s and an overclocked Q6600 off of it. With that said, the PSU was good up to about 800W, so it would be enough. However, the fact that it does not live up to its rating makes me reluctant to suggest using it for any reasonably high load.

excellent advice, maybe I will pickup a smaller supply to supplement my BFG? like a 600w corsair or something?
 
I would suggest replacing it altogether rather than purchasing a supplementary unit. Better to have a single large high-quality PSU rather than one mediocre PSU and one quality unit. Of course, that all depends on your budget.
 
based off the [H] review, a 260 system draws 330 at load, so lets say that 180 is the card, that puts us at 870, without fans

of course, this is all just pulling out my ass, but its gotta be in the ballpark, so I think a good 1000 watt would do fine

also, thats draw at the wall, so the power coming from the PSU would be less, because of efficency issues, so, youd only need to output, say, 80% of that number on a decent PSU, so we'll say 700 from the PSU, so a good 800 may do you, but 900-1000 would be better in the end I think for something that power hungry

also, that is the 192 260's, newer units would be a bit lower, but its good to round high in this case

So a total of 6 cores, granted they took less than a 260.

I think you would be just fine. The cards do not pull the max power when they fold.

You do have to be careful in case they change how the WU act. This is a 1 in 100 chance but it is out there.

FYI the PSU was pulling 720 from the wall with all 6 cores going. With an 80% eff that is about 580 watts that the system was pulling on the inside of the case.

really tho, I'm gonna try running 2 off a 610 unit on monday before I put in the second PSU, so I'll let ya know how that goes, and then you can just figure off that
