I haven't really payed much attention to P/S and never thought they would become so important so I have a couple questions.
My current P/S is a 350 watt Enermax EG-365P-VE which is about 5 years old. I will be upgrading to a SLI setup in about a year or two and was thinking if I should get a new one now or wait?

Currently the 12v rail provides 17amps and was wondering if that is affecting my vid card or other components in any way? How many amps on the 12V rail does a 9800XT require?

My current setup is:
Athlon 64 3.0ghz
1gig of RAM
9800XT
74 gig Raptor (will have in a couple days)
and then other things such as a dvd drive, cd-rw drive, soundcard, and fans.

So would it be a good idea to get a new P/S?

IF your current PSU is working fine and your computer isn't having power induced stability problems, then I'd say your PSU is fine for now. However when you do decide to go SLI you'll need at least a 550watt PSU. I'd get it a couple months before I bought everything else to make sure that it's going to last more than a month. That's just me though.

Also, do you mean you have an A64 3000+ or you've successfully overclocked you CPU to 3.0GHz?

A64 3000+

So I guess I'll wait then.

Stay with your enermax now, but when you upgrade to SLi get a new one. What cards were you thinking about getting?

I'm not sure yet and haven't really thought about it since I still have about a year and a half to do so. I'll also look into a crossfire setup and see what is best way to go. It really doesn't matter to me if it's ATI or Nvidia- as long as the price and performance are good.
