Power supply problem?

I think I have a psu or hd problem.

While running, every so often i hear a sound from one hd that sounds like it is powering down and up again. Also, a few times the computer has refused to boot, giving me a message abouty a non-system disk. After disconnecting and reconnecting the drives, I was able to get it to boot again.

I have a craptastic raidmax 420W psu now, just ordered a FortronSource AX500A to test out my theory.

Anybody have any insight?

I had an IBM Deskstar do the same thing. Failing drive. ;)

Did you try another power connector? You know.. in case one of the pins were bent.

I doubt it's the PSU itself because if you had enough of a power drop to cause the HDD to park and restart, there'd also be some other aspects of the PC that require 5V and 12V that would "quit working" causing pretty catastrophic results (hard lock, for example.)

hmmm...the hard part will be to figure out which drive is failing :(

Hope its not my big one.
