i just recieved a 580 watt power supply from newegg. i hooked it up to my pc and it wouldnt turn on! I know it was working because the light on the swith came on. then i put in an old 300 watt power supply and it worked fine. This isnt the first time it happened, the same thing happened with a 500 watt power supply from compusa. anyone know what could be wrong?

can you please tell me why the fuck u need a 500watt psu
i have 145watt psu and its connected to all the specs on my desktop and 3 case fans. and i had it for 3 yrs

i need it because i have a thermaltake fan controller, 4 fans, 4 led lights, a cathode tube, a cd burner and dvd rom drive, a harddrive cooler, and a thermaltake vocanoe processor cooler. i dont know why it matters though because all i asked was if anyone knew what was wrong

u probably already saw this in the forum:D

so, I have a 3.4x10^23W PSU runned by dark matter. 500W doesnt seem much....

But anyways, what are the specs on ur comp? I'm not sure if all computers can handle a certain limit psu. Correct me if im wrong.

Ok, you're wrong :D Anyway, what you need to do is pull the PSU out and jump is on by inserting a wire from the green wire to a black wire on the ATX connector. If it turns on, it's working, although perhaps not very well! If not, you probably have a dead unit, and need to return it. Might I suggest getting either an Enermax, Antec, or Fortron PSU next time. Quality > Quantity when it comes to PSUs. Fans and lights are also negligable in the whole scheme of things when it comes to power consumption.

The only 580w PSU on newegg is this Powmax peice of garbage: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=17-163-018&depa=1

Yep. Thats right. You bought a peice of garbage. Even if it works, its still a peice of garbage. Noone in their right mind can build a 580w PSU well for 39 bucks. At best, expect a decent 300w or middle of the road 350w. Do the world a favor, and return it, and purchase a real power supply with your budget. A reccomendation

And for you, xdviper, please consider that your slow behomoth doesn't use as much power as newer machines.

Edit: Forgot to mention... KompUSSR brand PSU's are also junk.
