The BFG 650watt in my sig is now 2 years old and I've just installed a new P43 mobo and upgraded to Vista 64bit in the process. Everything has been smooth except that now when I play WoW I get constant crashes despite removing all of my mods and a recent clean install. I get constant blue screens of death when playing WoW and when it reboots it says it has something to do with the ATI drivers which are the newest on their site and have been the only video drivers I've installed on this machine. Im running Prime v 25.6 right now on all 4 cores and so far after 2 hours of large FFTs I'm getting no crashes. I'm thinking it has something to do with Vista 64 and the ati driver as it never did this to me before on XP but my buddy keeps telling me it might be my Power Supply. If I cant figure this out I'm gonna load XP on a separate partition and see if that helps. Any ideas?:confused:
 
I am downloading the crysis demo to loop the timedemo a few times to see if I get any blue screens that way. ;)
 
I asume you talking about that visiontek ???
Did you modify it ? BIOS wise or anything ???
B/C i am running a 3870 Toxic w/ Vista 32 off a 300watt SFF power supply, its not even dual rail.
I throw Unreal Tournament 3 on max settings at it.
Some older games like Guild Wars, Lineage2, BF2142 all on max settings with AA turned to X2 or X4.
The card still happily Kicks and plays it, very smooth.

Might be driver and the 64 bit ??? and Microsoft inability to do things right the first time around.

PS: you might want to look on ur power supply which cable is plugged into the card.

In my case i had 2 cables available to plug into the gpu.
1. Floppy power connecter and a reg 4pin Molex on one cable (For Drives)
2. And a Cable that has 2x 4pin Molex on it,I used the adapter to get the 6 pin Molex into the card.(This cable amps rating was higher than the 1st cable)

I tested with cable 1. that was designed for Floppy devices and had less amps, the card crashed one me during heavy game play(everytime the card kicked into 3D mode).

I been using this card for a good 2 months now. And its running like a charm even on 3Dmark and such. Thats all of 300 watts.
 
Yea the Visiontek card still has the original Bios and firmware on it so its one of those that wont clock passed 862, but I havent overclocked it in a long while since I don't really need to for just WoW. I still think it has something to do with the 64bit driver but I'm gonna run some benchies to make sure its just not WoW. As far as the connectors the BFG 650 has 2 6 pins on it as it was originally intended for sli on the 7 series cards. I'm gonna try the second 6 pin connector just for kicks and see if that helps any. Another thing is I have to run Riva Tuner to keep the fan at 50% or higher other wise it idles at 65c. When playing I keep the fan at 75% percent and that keeps my temps at 69c or lower.

Yeah you defenitly have enough juice.
Search into the 64 bit Driver and Vista and Games maybe.
Keep in mind 64 bit vista isn't the best platform for games atm, and also isn't well supported by games.

Sounds like you have the comon heat issue maybe, when i was looking around for my card's bios i found alot of poeple complained about fan and heat issues on the refrence models.
They make a so called Fan Fix for any 3870s which use a 4 pin Fan.
Don't flash it with any Bios from a Toxic series or non-refrence boards if you own a refrence board.
