My brother has a dell inspiron 530 could it handle a gts 250 or should he just go with a gt 240?

no stock psu from dell, hp etc will have enough beef for that card. I would suggest a corsair or antec 400w psu should be around $50 with free shipping.

Thanks that's what I thought as well. I had him get the gt 240 instead. Not much but I'm trying to get him into pc gaming. I'm hoping that when it's time for his next pc I can talk him into building.

yeah, the GT 240 for the price/performance is not a good gaming card. You're better off getting the Radeon HD 5670 or HD 4770 video cards for the same price and performance is faster.

The GT240 was $60 and being the gddr3 model, I'm assuming it's slightly worse than the 9600GT so for someone with an e5200 locked at stock 2.5GHz playing at low res most likely he might be using a 720p tv I don't feel that the gt240 was that bad a choice. It was cheaper than all cards suggested and of those suggested I think only the ones suggested in hossdaddy's post would actually run in in the dell.
