I have an Athlon XP 2500 and an ATI 7000 Video card with one hard drive and two CD / DVD devices all running at stock. I have an old power supply (250w) that I want to add a 4 pin 12v connector to to power this Computer. 250w is plenty for this rig. The power supply is very quiet so that is why I want to use it. Are there any possible issues with modding the pwr supply to do this? Has anyone else done this?

250W proportioned out to what rails as amps?
derated to how many watts per rails at your worse case temperature operating range?

I've never heard of a 250W being rated for more than about 10A on the +12V rail, and that's not enough for the faster CPUs. OTOH if you're running a slower CPU without a fast graphics card that uses +12V and not many disk drives and your mobo won't run without the 4-pin connector, then the mod may be worthwhile. That's the reason I added this connector to my 300W Delta with only a 13.5A +12V rail.

I have a HIPRO 250w psu...quite heavy actually, rated for 14a on 12v lines.

It's running a 2.26b @ 2.9ghz, p4c800 deluxe, cd rom, 480mm fans, 512mb DDR, wireless card, geforce fx5200, and 2 7200rpm hard drives.

It's been going strong for a year and a half, I'm just waiting for it to die :p

12v line is @ 11.92 under load.
