I'm looking into removing all the extra wires coming out of my power supply. I'd imagine this would require opening the power supply and desoldering a bunch of wires (I'll have no problem doing this). Does anyone know of anyone who has done this before so I can see how someone else did it because I dive into it?
 
A tad similar to what you want to do. This guy opened up the PSU to have the wires come out the side in which the motherboard sits on, virtually hiding them.

I just cut all the wires I don't want to use and individually taped the ends off with electrical tape, and tucked them away inside the psu. I suppose desoldering would be cleaner lol
 
I had a PSU with that funky P4 plug that aint used and I opened up the PSU and just cut off the wires I didn't want, I cut them off close enough to the solder point that there was no danger of shorts. it really depends on how accessable the wires are you need to remove as to whats the best way to to deal with them.
 
Unfortunately I don't have any pictures but I have done this before. As long as you're decent with a soldering iron then you should have no problems. Heck, I had no business poking around in there like I was but I still managed to not kill myself or any computer parts. Everything is clearly marked in sections on the board pcb so it's easy to sort out.
 
I completely desoldered every component from a PSU pcb a long time ago. The easiest part were the wires. :D
 
I have plenty of modding spirit. I just don't mess with things that are readily available in a more reliable form.

If you know what you're doing, you need not ask. If you have to ask for assistance on this, I wouldn't assume you know what you're doing - hence, buy it don't mess with it. Poking your fingers into PSUs is a lot riskier to health and safety than cutting a hole in a piece of aluminum.
 
Agreed. There is enough juice in some places of the PSU to seriously hurt you.
 
if you want to completely remove the wires not just hide them i would say that desoldering would be the easiest and safest route... make sure that it is unplugged tho!!
