Power supply lacking?

I've got a frustrating problem here. I put together a new system, 2600k, cheap Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 mobo, Radeon HD 6870, 4x4 GB of RAM, 1TB drive and 64GB SSD, reused Corsair 620w PSU. Right off the bat, my wireless NIC was getting about 15% packet loss pinging google.com. I know my network is fine - sometimes my NIC would just disappear upon boot.

So, I bought a new wireless NIC (PCI) and I'm still getting the ping loss, intermittent loss of NIC. EasyTune6 is telling me the 12v is at 11.828, which shouldn't be a problem. I'm prime95 stable 24 hours, yet my NIC keeps acting up. Could this be a power problem? Or, do I have a flaky mobo. I haven't tried moving the NIC to a different PCI slot. Really don't feel like buying another PSU after I already dumped some money for another NIC.

Definitely not a power problem. And software readings are never accurate, you can never use them for judging whether it is the correct voltage or not. You would need a multimeter.

This pisses me right the hell off. I swore I would never spend a lot on a motherboard again because the $300 asus I bought last time was a POS, this gigabyte trumps it in lacking features and possibly faulty.

I'll have to bust out the multimeter tomorrow. It's hard to say but it definitely seems like the packet loss is greater while running prime. But, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a power problem.

I purchased a new mobo, Asrock Extreme4 gen3 - things were looking good for a while. After a gaming session, I exited back to the desktop to find that my NIC would not see any wireless networks.

So, I purchased a Corsair AX850 PSU, popped it in and everything is rock solid. Pings during prime95 aren't spiking like crazy - no loss over 2000 pings. What a fiasco that was. Never thought my system could be stable while a PCI card acts up like that.

620w could definitely handle that system, so it was probably not lacking power wise but maybe it was just reaching the end of its life.

Interesting, well, that is the nature of electronics. Things you think shouldn't have anything to do with each other in fact do, and in strange and unexplainable ways.

That could be. My Q9450 system wasn't having problems with the old PSU at the time but I suppose it would have surfaced soon enough.

It's possible that the average voltage was fine but the power supply was very noisy. Especially if capacitors had failed. It is also possible for some rails to be rock soild stable while others are a complete mess. Finally remember that the core hardware in a modern PC mostly runs off local regulators.
