I have a wireless access point of which uses a computer/monitor cable to plug into this box which then plugs into the device. Today the wireless access point went down and I found this adaper box making a flickering sound. To say the least, I have to find a replacement and am by no means a power or electrician type guy. I figured I could purchase something SIMILAR and it would work the same or have some stuff purchased from Radio Shack that could do the deal? Suggestions?

You can replace it with another wall wart. However, you have to make sure that the specs match.

- The output voltage should be the same.
- The output current should be no lower than the one you have. It can be higher. (it looks like 1.25A, so 1.5A or 2A is fine)
- The output has to match DC or AC (I can't read that label well and I can't see whether it's AC or DC - likely DC, but double check).

Since it's a switching power supply, it may provide cleaner power than some transformer-based wall wart. For that reason, you'd be better off getting a replacement switching power supply. They are around, but a bit harder to find.

If it has a different plug (likely - most have a coaxial-style plug) you'll have to find an adapter or cut the existing plug off the busted PS and put it on the new one. That will require you to make sure you get the positive-positive and negative-negative connections correct.
