Power Supply Effeciency

I was looking at some power supplies, ie. 80+ Gold
and I'm looking at two different ratings, 80 Plus Bronze vs 80 Plus Gold (Earthwatts vs Seasonic)

If I get either Earthwatts or Seasonic for 750W, the Seasonic will pull less electricity from my electrical outlet, correct? My house has a lot of OLD electricity wiring and I don't want to use too much power and hit the circuit breakers (happens with even a Keurig coffee cup maker ...)

Overtime the Seasonic would use less electricity and I'm assuming I'd see this on the electricity bill? I'm trying to finish up my build, and I imagine this computer will be on always 24/7.

Thanks!

My brain hurts from reading your post. If English isn't your first language, my apologies. [H] wrote an article a short time ago debunking the importance of the ratings. I personally prefer Seasonic BUT, you need to research the individual models you are trying to compare rather than comparing the 80 plus ratings.

Yes, the Seasonic will draw less power. However, the difference is not that large; the real advantage is that your cumulative power consumption over a long period of time will be smaller. If your breakers are tripping from things like coffee makers, that's probably a result of transients (high loads that only last for a very short amount of time but are still enough to trip the breakers).

Keep in mind the power savings also depend on what's in your computer. If your computer ends up only requiring 200W of power, you'll only be saving about 10W on average with an 80Plus Gold PSU compared to a Bronze-rated unit.

Thanks, cleaned it up.

I fell under the marketing Earthwatts and had assumed that Earthwatts would be the most gentle on my electricity bill, but I realized that Seasonics seemed to be more efficient and would probably be a little bit better.

Ended up coming down between the above, and I didn't want to save a few dollars here and there just to realize I would need to upgrade again.

The Seasonic is certainly more efficient, but it's also twice the price. I wouldn't say it's worth it unless you're really crazy about the modularity and silent fan.
