I'm trying to get a good scope of how much power supply I will need for my newest dream rig

the eXtreme Power Supply Calculator told me that all of this:

2 8800 GTX in SLI
Sound Blaster with front panel card
pci-e x1 wireless adapter
2 HDDs
1 overclocked Q6600
2 DVD Drives
fan controller
front panel LCD Display
4 sticks DDR2 RAM
and 3 fans of varying sizes (smallest one 120 mm)

would only tax me 608 watts. Is this true?

well that same psu calculator said i needed 968W... i'm running perfect on a 750W plus I added an extra 8 hdds in addition to my specs below just to see how the psu held out.. doesn't even fluctuate on voltages..

as somebody told me when I freeked out thinking I'd have to shell out for a 1000W psu

eXtreme Power Supply Calculator = eXtremely inaccurate

if i was you i'd get a 750W corsair psu.....

Silverstone Decathlon 750, Antec Quattro 850, 1000.

The calculator is about as accurate as an ex girlfriend of mine.

well remember, the psu calculator works on load %s that u pick, so if u pick ur cpu @ 80% etc it will change, and hte hdds I think it always keeps at full load, same with DVDS, FANS, ETC

Half the problem with that calc is most people screw up the "dual/quad" setting by putting down 4 procs @ 4 cores. :D

I got 502 Watts unclocked 6600...also, the numbers they give you are PEAK, not continuous. The tool most of the time is only as good as the info you put into it. ;)

Ah, so like her, it overestimates the amount of power needed to effectively power your system, and -- er, nvm. Let's not go there. :p
