Power Supply Break in

Did someone do a writeup on how to break in a power supply? Is there such a thing? If so, where can I find that article because I'm installing my new power supply after work.

By break in you mean like with a an automobile engine? If so not so much.

I thought I read somewhere that I should keep the computer on all night while running some type of tests/programs to help break in the power supply. My plan was to install my new power supply tonite apply Artic Silver 5 because I think the CPU is running hot at times and jumping into BF2 afterwards.

Burn in's are usually done for the sake of other system components like the CPU, RAM, etc. However, it won't hurt it to do that (and will give you a system wide stability test of which the PSU is a very important part) and if the PSU is faulty running it as high a load as you can for an extended period of time could find the weakness.....or not it just depends on how the PSU is faulty(if it is). What you would want to do to check it is put as much load as you can get on the supply and check voltages over a period of time with a DMM. They should never vary more than +/-5%

Edit: however this isn't really what I would call a "breaking in"....for some reason I always think of rings seating when people say break in.....that or oil, a baseball, and a big rubberband.

Spectre, Thanks for your input. I NEVER put the Artic Silver on the processor. Is this easy to screw up?

You don't need to break in power supplies.

Though running them under high load (using CPUburn, etc) will heat them up a bit more, getting rid of that "new electronics" smell more quickly...
