Power Supply 12+ reading low

it reading between 11.48-11.54 on sisoft sandra

no higher than 11.54


motherboard monitor reads is as low as 11.13 and high as 11.50

could this be causing error's when i try to install software that i have download.

when i install the software ever time at the same place it error's out stating "bad install package or media". but when i download it on another system and burn it to a cd and install it, it works great.
 
What PSU are you using and is this a new build or rebuild? How long has the installation error been coming up? What are your system specs?
 
The problem with the burning could be a bad burner. do you have system crashes and reboots?
 
Burner may be underpowered to function correctly. As low as your 12 volt rail is reading with software, do you have a meter to confirm that? Almost sounds like something is shorting out or failing and dragging down your PSU. Still need system specs though.
 
are you using any dl managers? those might be corrupting files... but yeah 11.50V is kinda low... avg reading on my college rig is about 11.61V but I don't experience any problems (well I might be having problems once a while but not the kind you have...). oh and are you ocing or something?

ok my main system is the problem system

when i download stuff to my system and install it from there is errors out.


when i download it to my other system and then burn it to a cd. and then take to my main system it installes fine and works great.

i have no problems burning to cd

PSU is used doesn't help a lot. Wattage and brand would be nice or is it that bad? Do you have a meter and the knowledge of how to check the PSU output. IF this is some crappy 200 watt 5 year old power supply that was salvage from an old PII system that may explain the low voltage. Stripping all the hardware down to bare essentials and checking the output voltage could help determine if the PSU is dying or some other hardware is dragging it down... Low voltage can send you chasing your ass looking for reasons why this and that is going on.
 
According to Antec that is a 278 Watt max power supply which should be enough to run what you have listed. It's not the biggest of things though. Since it's a name brand power supply we should be able to trust the specs. Is there anything else hooked up to the PSU other than what you have listed? What about the wiring circuit feeding it? I'd try to lesser its burden to see if you can get the voltages back up. An under powered computer is not a happy computer. Are you running the monitor off of the PSU? If you strip down to bare essentials and you can't get the voltage up I'd looked at your wiring situation in the house. If you can rule those out I'd invest in a new PSU before you damage something more expensive. But the question still remains if you have a meter to be able to confirm the voltage readings you are getting from sisoft sandra?
 
i also notice a high pitch sound that comes from the cpu when i start up motherboard monitor. only when the splash logo is on, and then it goes away when the splash logo is gone.
