Power Protection Advice

I am planning to purchase the following two products to provide some protection for my gaming computer and also maybe a less expensive solution for my laptop (Specifications are listed in my signature)

APC BR1500LCD 1500VA 865 Watts 8 Outlets BACK-UPS RS
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842101067

APC LE1200 6.5 ft. 4 Outlets 680 j 1200VA Automatic Voltage Regulator
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812106005

My questions are...

1) Is the Voltage Regulator needed/better? I currently have the following APC Surge Protector since I was really in need of ALL seven electrical sockets. Also as far as I've been able to tell over the years I have not had any power issues but then again I have no way of being 100% sure.

2) Do I connect the UPS to the wall outlet and then the surge protector or voltage regulator to the other devices or vice versa (I'm currently guessing Voltage Regulator -> UPS -> Computer) I have read on another forum that it is not recommended to plug connect a UPS to any other electrical device and to only make a direct connection to the wall socket. Can someone please shed some light on this?

3) Are there any UPS recommendations and also features I should look for when purchasing a UPS that is really beneficial in this day and age? I've had one APC UPS that lasted me a few years and it worked without a problem. This is primarily why I was going to purchase another APC product.

4) Would you recommend getting a UPS for a laptop or should voltage protection be enough? I was wondering because it's generally always on and especially since the laptop will auto switch to battery during a power outage. I guess it may be useful for auto shutdown come to think of it.

Thanks in advance for the advice and time taken for the help. Sorry about the wall of text.

1) It's not necessary unless you have really dirty power where you live.

2) Plugging the UPS into the voltage regulator would place unnecessary strain on the UPS. You'd be better off going wall>UPS>AVR>stuff (though you probably don't need the AVR anyway).

3) The UPS you're looking at should do you fine. Just don't plug any unnecessary devices into it.

4) Laptops already have built-in UPSes. They're called batteries ;).

Is it okay to have APC Voltage Regulator > Surge protector > Devices? I really need the extra sockets and the voltage regulator only has 4.

Like I said, unless you have really dirty power, forget about the voltage regulator and just get the UPS. If you need more outlets, get a power bar.
