Power Outage, now computer won't boot...

I had a power outage today for a few hours and now my computer doesn't boot. The monitor doesn't even get a signal. So what should I check first? The mobo lights up and all the fans run so I think the PSU is ok. Any ideas? TIA.
 
probably motherboard has fried. I suggest getting a UPS to avoid similar issues in future.
 
do you have any backup parts to test with,or maybe a friend who can help out?
 
Was it on a surge protector?

MOBO sounds dead.. maybe along with a whole lot more. :(
 
No surge protector... I'm helping a friend build a new compouter so should have a bunch of parts here next week. This definitely sucks big time...

I hope it is just the mobo, because I haven't backed up my drives this month. :(

If you don't hear any beeps when you turn it on, that usually means the MOBO is fubarred. There are beep codes built into the BIOS that will indicate bad memory, video or CPU. As for checking, all you can do is start swapping out parts and seeing if they work in another computer. It's a process of elimination.

You can take it to a shop, but if it's not a good one, they'll be "experimenting" with new parts on your dime.
