a minute ago my computer randomly shut off. no power outage. drawing nominal power. no programs running.

i noticed the device i had plugged into my usb port had power still running to it.

i pushed the power button. nothing
toggled the psu switch. nothing.
unplugged the cord and then put it back into the psu and then i got power.

so, bad psu or mobo?

(note, mobo's an msi 848p 3+ years, a couple years back it randomly arched and a transistor got fried but absolutely stable running ever since. the psu is just as old 300w antec i think, nothing great.)

Ideas?

Unplug the PSU from the MB and test it independently. Test it out of the case. If you have a voltmeter, see if it sustains the proper voltage. Then, that would rule out the problem being the PSU.

On to the MB. Start with the basics. Only plug in CPU, mem & vid card. Start plugging things back in to find your culprit.
