Power failure, now PC won't boot :(

its not mine, its my friends pc thats having the problem. we had power failure earlier coz of some very strong winds and rain. It lasted for a few hours, then the power came back. since I have UPS on mine, power failures/surges is never a problem for me. got a call from my friend, he says that his pc is stuck on Bios setup(he doesn't have UPS on his), with an error saying that his CPU is unworkable. told him to reset the cmos, then reboot, but now the error says CPU Checksum error. what could the problem be? got the feeling its the motherboard .

the problem is that he didnt have a surge supressor and likely needs a new computer because of it.

aight, got him to boot from winxp cd, and it booted. I guess its safe to say that the problem is the hard drive? its gotta be corrupted.

prob has a bad battery and just lost his bios settings sounds to me...
