I have dell poweredge 700 with the lame dEll Cerc SATA 1.5/6ch raid card running Raid 5 with 3 drives..

The card starts up..

then i get "error : Controller Kernel Stopped Running" ..

and thats it...

can this be fixed ?

Can i just changed the card to a new one (different brand) without losing my data ?

I have sent an email to dell. .but havent gotten anything back from their tech support.

No.

Can you boot off of a Floppy or CD? If so, I would try to get a new firmware for the controller card, and updating that first..

However before all of that, it sounds like this should be a new enough system to still be under warranty. So call Dell support first. I have had decent luck with that.

no.. its an old machine about 1 1/2yr old..

will try the firmware and see if that works.
