french article has power consumption numbers for 73 different video cards, it's in french, but all we really need are the numbers, right...?

how much power does your card use...? the charts splits the cards into the two camps, green team on top, red team on the bottom, but if you roll over the chart with your mouse it switches to highest consumption to lowest...

Damn they show the 4870x2 using more power during the 3d tests than the 5970 even. And I have two of them lol. That was surprising because I thought the 5970 was supposed to be very close to the 300w PCIe limit.

These are the power consumption figures I took for my rig a few weeks ago:
Idle at desktop: 375watts
Prime95 (4 CPU cores loaded): 530watts
Furmark (4 GPUs, 1 CPU core loaded): 877watts
Prime95 (3 CPU cores loaded) & Furmark (4 GPUs, 1 CPU core loaded): 1035watts
Prime95 (3 CPU cores loaded) & Furmark (4 GPUs, 1 CPU core loaded) & Defrag on all non-SSD Hard Drives: 1173watts

How were you able to draw 1173w out of a 1000w power supply?

Because power-supplies are measured based on output not consumption from the wall.

Assuming that I was maintaining the advertised 80% efficiency, my power-supply should have been putting out about ~940w at that point.
