Power coating your computer case

Now I know of a place near me that can power coat metal parts easily.
My question is for those of you who have had your case power coated. Most of the pics I've seen people post have been of Shuttle cases. What I'm looking to do is powder coat my mid tower.

1. Power coating adds width. Did the case fit back together easily or was it a bit tight?
2. How far do you think it should be broken down prior to sending it in to power coat.
3. I'd like to see some pics of cases that were done if you don't mind. If it's easier just email them to me at cgbrown@techie.com.

Mostly what I'm thinking of doing are the top and side panels. Concerns are how well it will fit back together and whether or not the cooling holes will be useless at that point.

i have never had this done but i honestly dont see the paint adding enough girth to disrupt the reassembly. as far as break down i think that depends on how you want it to look. you could leave it frame and sides or you could break it all the way down. but with all the way down you will have to rerivit which will leave silver spots all over. if you dont mind it like that then i would break it all the way down just to get a nice even coat all through the case.

If you aren't thinking about doing the chassis, you shouldn't have any problems at all.
Remove the top and side panels from the case completely, and have them coated on the outside only. That way there is no added thickness where the panels fit onto the chassis.

Note though, the panels need to have all other paint/coating removed from them before they can be powdercoated. No problem if the place you are sending it is doing that, otherwise the easiest way to get it off is to simply use paint stripper (much quicker and easier than sanding it off).

not to be a dick but it is powder coat...i used to do this for a living and it shouldnt cause any problems it will add thickness but without rivits chassis have a little play to them...so if you get it done it will be a nice snug fit.....have a nice day

Yeah I had thought about doing the chassis as well but that would mean having to disassemble everything, not something I want to do.

My main reason for wanting to powder coat the side panels is to have a much more durable finish. The top of my case already has a couple of minor scratches in it and that irritates me to no end. Also the metal panels don't match the front bezel (odd I know, but that's what I get for buying the cheep knock-off my ex emplorer sold).

Not a bad idea except for one problem, the house I live in is under renovation and we don't have an oven. Also the paint at the local stores doesn't have the same color I'm looking for.

Got a friend with an oven? How about ordering the paint? Here is a link to the manufacturer:

Hey Blade what's up? I like the name.

I agree, the paint should add that much spacing to your case unless you spray like a madman.
