Power Button Problem - Troubleshooting

Is this a fickle power button or some other issue?

I built a computer for my dad a couple of weeks ago. The first time I went to power it up it took several tries and some random cable touching (making sure they were tight) before it powered up without instantly shutting back down (the mobo, cpu and memory were bought from MWave and tested before sending). After that, everything was fine until a couple of days ago. When you press the power button, it lights up, the fans spin up but within a second or two it dies off again. There are no beeps to indicate a BIOS problem and if you mess with it for a while the computer will eventually come on and stay on.

Any ideas? Ways to troubleshoot?

Thanks

Unplug the switch connector from the motherboard. Use a screwdriver to momentarily short the switch pins on the motherboard to turn the computer on.

If the above works reliably, then the switch is bad.

Thanks. That was what I was looking for. Sure enough, it was a faulty power switch. I will get a replacement case ordered today since it was under warranty.
