There's no reason this 9-bay tower wouldn't work for a 15 drive tower, is there? (Using 5-bay HD trays/enclosures). Just for the HDs. . .no server.

It's about 17.3" x 7.5" x 16.7"

Thanks,

Paul

You should probably check the internal clearances, make sure the 5-in-3 you choose is not so long that it will bump up against something. Also, some cases have permanently attached metal "guides" in the bays that may inhibit inserting a 5-in-3.

I had some issues with this, but they were quickly resolved with a pair of pliers. A lot of these cases have little metal tabs to help hold up the dvd/cd drives, but they are almost always punchouts from the main metal housing, so they can be easily bent back into the original position to allow for clearance.

I would replace that power supply if you decide to purchase that case. It's presumably garbage and I wouldn't risk 15 drives to it.

I am just looking into case options. In another thread, I mentioned the only suitable tower I found (basically, the only bare-bones tower I found for just HDs with a small footprint) was the Addonics Storage Tower IX. The case from the pictures above is advertised as a 9-bay optical drive tower. Few details of the internals, including pictures, are given. . .

I am only in the planning stages for my HD tower. I do think a 6-bay tower that could hold 2 5-bay HD enclosures would suit my needs just fine; however, I would likely add an SAS expander to that, connected with one mini-SAS cable to the server's SAS controller, vs. using a SAS controller with more ports and using multiple mini-SAS cables. So, with the current expander options (am only familiar with the Intel and HP ones), I feel like I would be wasting a lot (in terms of using about 1/3 or less of the expander's potential). This makes me lean towards a 9-bay tower, then only add 2 5-bay HD enclosures, for now.

On the slim chance I get this case, I definitely would replace the PS. I would likely end up doing the same if I got the Addonics case.
